Carson City man accused of assault, child abuse causing mental harm in incident involving car
A 68-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of child abuse causing mental harm and assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening two juveniles sitting in a vehicle.
Walter Gorski was taken into custody in the 700 block of Telegraph Street at 4:26 p.m. According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area of Telegraph and Elizabeth streets in reference to a dispute. Dispatch advised an unknown male was threatening two female subjects who were in a running vehicle.
Dispatch further advised the male allegedly threw an unknown object at the vehicle, walked inside a home and returned with a bat. Deputies arrived and found two female juveniles, ages 13 and 14, one of which was extremely upset and crying.
A witness who was on the scene advised the suspect came over to 700 West Telegraph and asked for the homeowner. The witness told the man they would attempt to locate the homeowner and take care of the situation. The man stated he was upset about a vehicle running outside the home and threatened to "bash in the car" if the engine was not shut off.
The witness stated the next thing they heard was the suspect, Gorski, screaming at the children who were inside the car and a loud crash as if something hit the car, according to the report.
The witness stated another male came outside to check on the situation and that the male and suspect "exchanged words" resulting in Gorski allegedly returning to his residence on West Spear Street to retrieve a bat, the arrest report states.
A witness stated Gorski returned to the vehicle with the bat in a "swinging position" and stated they intervened and were able to de-escalate the situation. The situation was the suspect was on the driver side of the vehicle and in range to strike the vehicle with the bat. The witness believed the suspect was going to use the bat and smash the vehicle, the report states.
Deputies spoke with the juveniles who were in the vehicle, observing they were extremely upset and scared. One girl stated she was in the rear of the vehicle when the suspect approached and yelled at them. The juvenile stated the suspect then threw a rock "or something" at the vehicle, punched the window and later returned with a bat.
The officer asked the one of the girls to explain how she felt. The girl stated she was "terrified" and thought the man was going to hurt her and her sister. The juvenile stated she did fear the man was going to break into the vehicle and beat them. The juvenile stated she was scared that she was going to die, the report states.
The officer then made contact with suspect, Gorski, at his residence. He stated he was upset because the vehicle was running. He denied hitting or throwing anything at the vehicle but stated he did walk over with a baseball bat. When he was told that witnesses gave another version of events, the man said they were lying, the report states.
Due to the information provided by victims and witnesses, the suspect was arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and child abuse causing mental harm, both felonies. A preliminary breath test was obtained from the man with a .174 result, according to the report. Total bail amounts listed for the two offenses: $60,000.
