NV Energy cancels plan to shut down power Friday in Incline Village
NV Energy said Thursday it is canceling plans to shut off electric power lines Friday as part of a public safety outage management event in Incline Village due to improved weather conditions and an updated forecast.
There is a Red Flag warning at Lake Tahoe with elevated fire weather conditions.
NV Energy said in a news release Thursday morning that it will continue to monitor conditions and take extra steps to mitigate wildfire risk.
The steps include staging its NV Energy line crews, vegetation management crews and fire agency partners at specific locations around the lake. NV Energy says it will also continue to monitor the fire weather forecasts during this period. Impacted customers have been notified the power shut down event has been cancelled.

With a weather system expected to arrive in the region that will bring gusty winds with it, NV Energy says it will likely cut off power in the Incline Village area of Lake Tahoe on Friday to reduce the risk of wildfire caused by power lines.
"NV Energy is monitoring extreme fire weather conditions in the Incline PSOM Zone and a Public Safety Outage Management event is likely on Friday, Sept. 18 beginning at 7 a.m. This outage will impact 8,783 customers and is expected to last approximately 11 hours," according to an NV Energy news release.
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect from Thursday morning through Friday evening for much of the Sierra Front, including Incline Village, the Lake Tahoe Basin, Carson City, Douglas, Washoe, and Lyon counties.
This timeframe includes the duration of the weather event and an estimate of how long it will take crews to inspect the lines for damage, vegetation or debris in order to begin safely restoring power. Please note that the restoration time may change based on weather conditions or if crews must make repairs to equipment, the utility's new release says.
Impacted customers have been notified via phone, text and email messages. NV Energy will continue to monitor fire weather conditions and will provide regular updates on the status of the outage. Customers are encouraged to have an emergency plan in place.
A drive-thru Customer Resource Center will be available at Diamond Peak Ski Resort located at 1210 Ski Way, Incline Village from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The CRC will offer charging devices, light snacks, water and outage updates.
PSOM is a last resort measure of defense to help protect the community and environment from wildfires. During a PSOM event, power is shut off for safety in order to help prevent power lines or debris blowing into power lines and other equipment from causing a wildfire when certain environmental conditions are met.
