We are auditioning to add new cast members for Wild Horse Children's Theater elite Junior Theater Festival Performance Troupe. We are looking for talented young people, ages 10-18, to perform at the Junior Theater Festival West 2022 in Sacramento, Calif.

All aboard the Halloween Fairytale Express. The Carson City Railroad Association, in partnership with Wild Horse Productions, are bringing back the Halloween train ride at Mills Park in Carson City for Nevada Day weekend.

A 35-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning following a vehicle pursuit that began in Reno and ended in Fernley, in which the suspect went the wrong way along multiple roadways and nearly struck a Nevada Department of Transportation road crew.

Hungry bears looking to fatten up before winter have been roaming Carson City and surrounding valleys in larger numbers this season and that's in part due to drought and nearby wildfires, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

Dayton Intermediate School 7th and 8th grade girls basketball look to close out the season with the Sage Brush League Tournament. Games will be held in Yerington on October 8th, 2021. 7th grade plays at 3 pm and 8th grade at 4 pm with the winners advancing. Come out and support these young athletes.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has partnered with other participating Nevada law enforcement agencies in the Joining Forces program and is urging pedestrians and drivers to be aware of each other and to share the road responsibly.

Several local girls golf teams will get a financial boost this week. The annual Girlfriends Golf Tournament, held Sunday, Oct. 3 at Dayton Valley Golf Course, netted $3,795 which will be donated to several girls’ high school teams.

Navy recruiting leadership visited Carson High School on Tuesday in search of high-ability students who have what it takes to excel in high-demand fields, such as nuclear engineering, cryptology, and information technology.

We are longtime residents of Carson City and oppose the slaughterhouse approved by the planning commission last week.

Supporters of the project say that our region of Nevada is in need of a slaughterhouse. We have no reason to dispute that. But that does not mean it should be located in Carson City. On the contrary, a slaughterhouse should be placed in a rural part of the region, not a populated urban area.

The Dayton Library will be having a Trunk-or-Treat event on Saturday, October 30 from 4:30-6:30PM. The event will be held in the parking lot of the library at 321 Old Dayton Valley Rd, Dayton, Nev. Community members will be decorating their cars and the library will provide bags of candy for each decorated car to hand out. For those attending, they will be able to walk from each car and get candy.

Students in Carson City are invited to participate in various Walk to School Day events Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021. Many parents, teachers and administrators plan to join students in organized walks to promote safely walking or bicycling to school.

Three were arrested Saturday following an investigation after one of them attempted to pick up property at the Carson City jail while allegedly under the influence of drugs, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Good morning Carson City! Are you ready to begin the annual Nevada Day Treasure Hunt?

This may be the last year for some time to hunt, as the current organizers have announced they will not be taking it on next year. The current organizers, including Jennifer Mahe who spoke on the Treasure Hunt's history back in 2019, stated that they took over for the Olson Family, who began the hunt back in 2000.

As part of the Carson Ranger District’s Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest recently released sheep in the Jacks Valley Wildlife Management Fuels Reduction Project area just south of Jacks Valley Road in Carson City, Nev.

From approximately mid-October through November, the sheep will consume cheatgrass and other non-native vegetation over a 2,000-acre project area on National Forest System lands.

Following five months of outdoor dinner shows at Living the Good Life, the Mile High Jazz Band is bringing their October performance indoors. With massive wildfires plaguing the western United States, scientists have been tracking an increase in dangerous wildfire-generated extremes, including fire-generated thunderstorms and tornados embedded in wildfire plumes that can reach up to a mile high.

Come enjoy a day at the huge 28-acre Historic Sutro Tunnel Site. Our fantastic tour guides and historians will be onsite to teach you the history of the buildings, equipment and the tunnel. UPDATE: The fire was knocked down at 11:24 a.m. and forward progress stopped at 11:27 a.m. Firefighters on scene are in mop-up phase. The cause is under investigation.

The fall colors have me itching to plant bulbs, so I’m going shopping for daffodil bulbs. I love to see their bright flowers in the spring after a dreary grey winter. An added plus is that the ground squirrels leave them alone, not like the tulips, which the squirrels love to eat.

CARSON CITY — The influenza season is fast approaching, and while last season saw historically low influenza activity nationwide due to precautions taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Nevadans are encouraged to receive a flu shot as the 2021-22 season begins.

A 27-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 29 for suspicion of drug possession, possession of burglary tools and stolen property, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

INCLINE VILLAGE — The scientific community around Lake Tahoe is buzzing after an amazing discovery by the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science. The non-profit organization was hosting a citizen science event in June in the Donner Lake area when participants discovered a Spiny Baskettail (Epitheca spinigera) dragonfly. The species was first discovered in the region more than 100 years ago but had not been seen here since.

Mike Kunz and Stephen Hipp, co-chairmen of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Veterans Dinner, announced that Nevada System of Higher Education Vice Chancellor of Workforce Development, Caleb Cage, will be the featured speaker at the Chamber's fourth annual Veterans Dinner.  Mr. Cage will be attending the dinner with his family and the president of Western Nevada College, Dr. Vincent Solis.

University of Nevada, Reno Extension and its 4-H Youth Development Program is joining the rest of the nation to celebrate National 4-H Week, Oct. 3-9.
