Carson City arrests: Woman attempts to pick up property from jail under influence of meth
Three were arrested Saturday following an investigation after one of them attempted to pick up property at the Carson City jail while allegedly under the influence of drugs, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Amanda Rae Toomey was booked for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Also arrested was Brittany Rachelle Pounds, 34, for alleged felony possession of a controlled substance, gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
A 34-year-old man was also booked for suspicion of misdemeanor violation of bail conditions and driving without a valid license.
According to the booking report, at 8:25 p.m. a deputy responded to the jail for a woman who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics. A deputy said the woman was at the jail attempting to pick up some property.
Deputies made contact with the woman, identified as Amanda Toomey. She appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine. She had exaggerated movements, involuntary muscle spasms, and difficulty speaking on topic, the booking report states.
The woman stated she was brought to the jail by friends who were in a vehicle in the parking lot. She stated she did not have a valid driver's license.
A deputy made contact with the two subjects in the vehicle, identified as Brittany Pounds and a 34-year-old male. The male stated he did not drive to the location and that he switched seats with Pounds on arrival.
The deputy informed the man that they would check video footage to see if he was driving. The man began to get upset and denied driving, the report states.
While speaking with both passengers, the officer noted Pounds had a knife on her hip and the male stated he had a knife in his pocket. Both were removed from the vehicle and the weapons were removed. A deputy walked a K9 around the vehicle, in which the dog alerted positive for a presence of narcotics, the report states.
While deputies searched the vehicle, an officer read all three subjects their Miranda rights and each individually acknowledge they understood their rights. The officer asked them to tell the truth on who was driving the vehicle. Eventually, after several attempts, all three subjects admitted it was the man who was driving the vehicle. The man had a suspended driver's license and is on release with conditions not to drive without a valid license.
Marijuana was located under the driver's seat where the man was seated. Inside the backpack belonging to Brittany Pounds was a knife with brass knuckles built into the grip, as well as a baggie of a testable amount of methamphetamine, the report states. She admitted that she believed her fingerprints would be on the baggie but stated it was not hers.
Toomey had a methamphetamine pipe in her backpack with a testable amount of methamphetamine in the bowl end. Toomey stated that her fingerprints would most likely be on the pipe as she used it an hour prior. She admitted to being under the influence of methamphetamine, the report states.
