One of the greatest warships that sailed for the U.S. Navy has been eternally etched into the Silver State’s history. The USS Nevada, which first saw action during World War I and then extensively during the second world war at Normandy and the Pacific theater, used her big guns and dedicated crew to help defeat the Axis powers in 1945.

A power outage north of Dayton off Six Mile Canyon Road and US-50 has affected more than 3,000 NV Energy customers Sunday morning.

The Reno City Council voted on Wednesday to sunset the 1,000 homes in 120 days program with 123 units completed, 611 units under building permit and 1,035 units under construction. The original program started in September 2019.

The Northern 5A boys and girls all-region cross country teams were announced Tuesday. They were based on this year's regional results.

A vehicle crash was reported just after 6 p.m. Friday night on E. William in the 1800 block.

The vehicle reportedly crashed into the side of a building and the driver is believed to be impaired according to dispatch.

On Nov. 9, 2023 at around 3 p.m., the Special Enforcement Team (SET) of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office contacted a suspicious U-Haul parked at the Carson City Nugget at 507 North Carson Street.

The U-Haul had a sunscreen placed over the windshield of the truck, but the detectives were able to see it was occupied by two people, Chad Hooser, 36, and Maile Daugherty, 29, who appeared to be using narcotics. Hooser was later determined to be a convicted felon.

Truly fortunate people are those who have lifelong friendships. Anna and Leah Roylance may be among the luckiest as they bonded in utereo. Their mom, Allison Roylance, tells her girls “you’re welcome for hand-crafting a best friend for you.” Anna and Leah are top students with impressive accomplishments in singing and musical theater and a bright future ahead of them, which is why they are Seniors in the Spotlight.

Just before 9:30 a.m., first responders were dispatched to a fully engulfed car fire on Lone Mountain Drive with reported explosions.

All passengers are out of the vehicle.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place Tuesday Nov. 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room within the Carson City Community Center.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called early Thursday evening to a vehicle crash in the area of the roundabout at South Carson and Stewart streets.

The Friends of the Douglas County Library will host a two-day used book sale, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-18, at the Minden Library, 1625 Library Lane.

Festival of lights

Flavors of India in Carson City will hold Diwali (Festival of Lights) Saturday, Nov. 11 featuring music, dance, games, free henna tattoo, face painting, food, fashion show with Indian outfits.

UPDATE 2:15 PM: Mining explosives found in a box at an Arrowhead Drive residence in Carson City on Thursday morning led to an investigation and call to Douglas County Bomb Squad to detonate the box, apparently bought at an estate sale.

The Department of Taxation’s Carson City office will be relocating to its new home at 3850 Arrowhead Dr, Second Floor in Carson City the week of Nov. 13, 2023. It is moving from its current location, 1550 E College Parkway in Carson City.

Princessa is our longest-term dog right now at the Carson City Shelter and has been with us since August 20. While she can be a bit hesitant around new people, she has come a long way with her nerves.

A 27-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of three counts vehicle burglary and possession of stolen property, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Johnny Rockets first opened in its location September 2009, the first business in the then newly expanded and refurbished Carson Lanes bowling alley.

Despite opening amidst the recession, and the bowling alley changing hands, the restaurant has been a steady anchor — until now.

Members of the Rotary Club of Carson City got to work over the weekend assembling beds for the FISH Housing Project on North Carson Street. The apartments will provide housing for low-income students enrolled in degree and trade programs at Western Nevada College. The program is designed to help under employed individuals, with a focus on single parents, gain the skills needed to obtain higher paying jobs and careers.
