NV Energy and the Nevada Department of Transportation are announcing brief closures of Interstate 580 between northern Carson City and Washoe Valley during the morning of Sunday, Oct. 29. A similar closure happened on Sunday, Oct. 22.

After the Nevada Day Parade, the Carson City Historical Society invites the public to attend an Open House at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum and the Carriage House following the Nevada Day Parade.

The Open House will start around 2:00 p.m., at the conclusion of the parade, and will last until 5 p.m. Visitors should first report to the Carriage House, the yellow building with the double doors just east of the Foreman-Roberts House Museum.

The Carson City Host Lions Club has been designated an official vendor of the Nevada Day Button. Lions will be selling the buttons again this year during the Nevada Day Parade for $2.

Reno Jazz Orchestra Live in Concert Nov 11 & 12, 2023

Shakespearian actors will join the Reno Jazz Orchestra to perform the music of Duke Ellington’s “Such Sweet Thunder” concert on November 11 and 12, 2023, at the Good Luck Macbeth theater in Reno. David A. Brennan, DMA, will be the Guest Music Director, and the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s Jazz Workshop students will open the show.

Sierra Arts Foundation, a nonprofit that advocates for arts and the artists that create it within a 200 mile radius of the Reno, Sparks region, is hosting the first Holiday Music and Art Festival in partnership with the Carson City Parks and Recreation department at Silver Saddle Ranch on Nov. 18.

GARDNERVILLE — Applications are now open for artists and crafters for participation in the 3rd Annual Ag & Artisan Holiday Faire, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic Storke Dairy located at 876C Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. Food vendors must have their own health permits. The application period closes Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 5 p.m.

Fifteen teams and more than 300 athletes from Nevada and the Eastern Sierra competed in the Nevada Interscholastic Cycling League championship on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Western Nevada College. The event drew more than 800 riders and spectators and was hosted by WNC and Visit Carson City.

Last year, the Director of the Nevada State Museum, Dr. Josh Bonde, his wife Becky Hall, Director of the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada, and their two daughters Nola Belle and Kiera were involved in a tragic car accident. Home Means Nevada was written by Bertha Raffetto in 1932, and was officially adopted a year later as the official state song by the Nevada Legislature.

What is identified as “The Orthodox Church” today is the original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ, handed down to His Apostles, and described in the pages of the New Testament. It was one Church until a split separated Orthodox East from Latin West in the eleventh century but the Orthodox Faith and practice has continued unaltered for two thousand years.
