With wildfires burning across the state and much of the West, many residents are shaking their heads, wondering how we got to the point where smoke-filled skies are just something we have to accept as part of living in Nevada.

A 35-year-old man was arrested Thursday for suspicion of destruction of evidence and possession of a concealed dangerous weapon among other offenses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Continued firefighting efforts led to significant progress this weekend on the Tamarack Fire south of Gardnerville in Alpine and Douglas County. As of Sunday morning the fire is 82 percent contained and holding at 68,696 acres, officials said.

Bently Ranch has agreed to accept the burned vegetation from Douglas Disposal at no charge.

On Thursday, Carson City Health and Human Services issued their weekly COVID-19 report, which tracks data such as test positivity rates, active cases, recoveries, and more within the four quad-counties of Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, and Storey County.

Last week, there were 99 new cases throughout the quad counties, which rose this week to 162, a 63 percent overall increase.

UPDATE 4:42PM: The winds came and went without any rain in the Carson City area. There are thunderstorms forming south in Mono County, but as for now, the drive home looks to be filled with sunshine and partly cloudy skies in the capital city.

Strong outflow winds and thunderstorms are headed into Carson Valley, Carson City, Dayton and Lake Tahoe areas, according to the National Weather Service in a Wednesday afternoon special weather statement.

This summer has been difficult for all of the region’s residents, with record-breaking heat waves, drought, and early-season wildfires causing strain to the environment and energy resources.

Beginning Monday, Carson City Health and Human Services stopped all testing for COVID-19 at their location, causing confusion for some individuals on how and where they can receive tests if they fear they've been exposed.

According to Jessica Rapp, Public Information Officer for CCHHS, the decision to end testing is due to a decrease in demand for testing, and the increase in availability of testing throughout our community.

A Carson City man was booked Tuesday into Carson City Jail and charged with seven counts of sexual assault and kidnapping with a deadly weapon, according to a sheriff's office booking report.

In response to the current and growing risk of wildfire, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Bridgeport and Carson Ranger Districts are elevating current fire restrictions to Stage 2, effective Thursday, including all district lands in California and Nevada.

MINDEN — Douglas County is actively moving to a recovery phase from the Tamarack Fire after all evacuations were lifted on July 26, 2021. Both shelter locations have been closed, allowing Douglas County to focus on providing recovery resources to residents who have been impacted by the fire.
