Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Wednesday afternoon to a crash near the intersection of Roop and Emerson streets.

Lyon County made national headlines earlier this month after County Commissioner Ken Gray proposed a street name change from Old Dayton Valley Road to “Pres. Trump Way,” in what some believe was a violation of open meeting laws.

On July 15, 2021, Douglas County implemented a revised VHR permit ordinance. However, this county action is not a balance of Tourism Rules vs. Distressed Residents, but indication of poor local government administration and possible conflict of interest of those enlisted to support enforcement.

On Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at approximately 1:50 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to a fatal crash at US-50 and SR-341 in Lyon County.

This weekend July 17-18, 400 runners from all over America will be in Carson City for the 20th Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs — 104 mile, 52 mile and 55K trail running race.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is on scene of a fatal single vehicle crash that happened east of Carson City on Tuesday afternoon, blocking both lanes of westbound Highway 50 east of State Route 341 in Lyon County.

At the upcoming Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, which will be held Thursday, July 15 beginning at 8:30 a.m., the board will hold a discussion and possible action regarding banning cannabis consumption lounges within city limits.

A call to the Carson City Sheriff's Office dispatch early Tuesday morning regarding a possible homicide on Pinebrook Drive turned out to be unfounded and a hoax, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

At around 12:45 a.m. dispatch received a phone call regarding a homicide at a Pinebrook Drive residence. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded. Officers breached the door and learned the phone call to dispatch that alerted them to the residence and the occupants was a hoax call, said Sheriff Furlong. CCSO further learned that Douglas County dispatch had received a similar call.

Carson City Fire Department responded Monday night to a small brush fire in the area of Morgan Mill Road and Deer Run Road.

The call came into dispatch at 9:51 p.m. The fire was reported as a 10-foot by 10-foot brush fire. It was knocked down by CCFD at 10 p.m. No damage to structures was reported. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 7:54PM: From Truckee Meadows Fire Twitter: Air resources and fire crews from Carson City Fire Department, Truckee Meadows, Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest, the BLM and Nevada Division of Forestry all helped make a quick stop in the 1.9 acre fire, which started as a vehicle fire that extended to the wildland.

UPDATE 6:02PM: Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon reports the fire is at the top of Duck Hill and structures are threatened. Firefighters are working to secure the areas surrounding the homes. Meanwhile there are 2 helicopters and 2 planes doing water and fire retardant drops. The amount of acres is unknown at this time. Slamon says the fire is, technically, in Washoe County. Fire crews from BLM, Truckee Meadows and Carson City are fighting the brush fire.

The fire was reported at 5:12 p.m. I-580 is open in both directions and is not burning near the freeway.

A fire has been reported Monday evening near the top of Lakeview Hill, north east of I-580 freeway near Carson City. Flames were spotted near homes on that side the hill.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Land Use Planning Advisory Council voted on Friday to endorse the concept of a smart from the start approach to energy planning in Nevada. SLUPAC is a Governor-appointed advisory council with representatives from each County in Nevada. They provide recommendations on land use and natural resource planning for the state.

The Responsible Beverage Server Training educates people seeking employment or are employed as servers of alcoholic beverages, marijuana products or tobacco. Partnership Carson City, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and School Resource Officers are once again offering the training in person starting Thursday, July 15.

CARSON CITY — Myron Freedman has been named administrator of the Nevada Division of Museums and History, overseeing the state’s seven museums. The director of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs made it official in June after consulting with the Board of Museums and History.

With the temperatures at 90 degrees each day of the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe, Sunday afternoon was the perfect time for Vinny Del Negro to keep his cool. The former NBA coach and player was emotional after beating Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz in a one hole playoff on 18 at Edgewood Tahoe.

"I lost my father this Wednesday, and I wanted to play well for him," said Del Negro, who played for six NBA teams in 12 seasons. "I thought of him the whole time — He dad passed away while in hospice two days before the first round.

The Reno Chalk Art & Music Festival came to an end Sunday with a final flourish of vibrant colors and excitement. Over the course of three days, artists from across the country showcased their skills while battling for prizes in categories such as Best Use of Color, Best 3D Design and Best Reproduction of a Master’s Work.

A record 151 artists participated in the fifth edition of the event that returned in 2021 after being canceled last year due to the pandemic.

Presently I’m reading our Surgeon General’s book, Together, and in it Dr. Murthy reveals that, “People with strong social relationships are 50 percent less likely to die prematurely than people with weak social relationships.” And too, “Loneliness is a built-in reminder that we are stronger together.”

UPDATE MONDAY: Two of the women involved in a vehicle pursuit in Carson City on Sunday afternoon face multiple charges after fleeing from deputies and, later, being caught.

Having been here for 57 years, I've seen the Carson River become a very nice smallmouth bass fishery. But in the last few years we've seen a drastic increase in people using the river including fisherman. This has resulted in dire consequences for a fragile fishery concerning the smallmouth bass.

CARSON CITY — The next new driver’s license or ID card you get from the Nevada DMV will have a new look and updated security features. A rollout of the new Nevada Driver’s License begins Monday, July 12 and will continue through July and August.

RENO — You’ve probably heard about romance scams where con artists trick unsuspecting victims into falling in love and parting with their money. Lately, BBB Scam Tracker is getting reports of a new type of romance scam. In this con, it’s the entire dating website that’s a sham.

Last week I stood in the street with my neighbor Karen watching a lightning started fire up on the mountain to the west. Fortunately, the smoke plume was small and the flames were hard to see even with binoculars. We knew all the firefighting services were stretched to the maximum with multiple fires across the Sierra Front and into California.

UPDATE 3:28 PM: The Nevada Seismological Center has adjusted the earthquake Sunday morning from a 3.2 to a 3.4 magnitude.

Hundreds of small earthquakes have been recorded since Thursday's 5.9 magnitude earthquake that shook the area near the Nevada, California border south of Topaz Lake near Coleville. One of the larger ones in the swarm series happened Sunday morning, with a 3.4 magnitude at 5:35 a.m.

With temperatures expected to surpass 100 degrees, an excessive heat warning continues through at least Tuesday for western and Northern Nevada, including the Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service.
