Strong outflow winds and thunderstorms are headed into Carson Valley, Carson City, Dayton and Lake Tahoe areas, according to the National Weather Service in a Wednesday afternoon special weather statement.
At 2:08 p.m. Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms and outflow winds along a line extending from Sugar Pine Point S to near Pine Grove. Movement was north at 15 mph. Wind gusts in excess of 40 mph, moderate to heavy rainfall, and small hail will be possible, according to the weather service.
Locations impacted include: Carson City, Gardnerville, Minden, Genoa, Johnson Lane, Virginia City, Spooner Summit, the greater Lake Tahoe area Prosser Creek Reservoir, Boca Reservoir, Glenshire-Devonshire, Washoe Valley and New Washoe City.
The weather service advises that these storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible NWS warnings.
If on or near Lake Tahoe, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now.
