Tamarack Fire update Wednesday: 59 percent contained, more evacuations lifted
U.S. Forest Service fire management reports 59 percent containment of the Tamarack Fire as of Wednesday morning, with a size of 68,393 acres.
Firefighters continue to get an upper hand on the fire burning south of Gardnerville in Alpine and Douglas counties. Another surge of moisture will bring additional thunderstorm chances the remainder of the week and upcoming weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Today's smoke outlook for the calls for "good" to "moderate" air quality across most areas.
Also, as of Wednesday, Alpine County Sheriff's Office has removed its mandatory evacuation order for the following areas:
Wolf Creek, State route 89 and State Route 4/Silver City

— State Route 89 from the junction of US 395 to State Route 4 is now open
— State Route 4 from the junction of State Route 89 to Silver City is now open
