Happening Tonight: Loud As Folk takes over Levitt AMP Carson City outdoor concert Saturday night
The Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series presented by The Change Companies is back and better than ever this Saturday. So grab your family, friends and neighbors and get ready to experience the power of free, live music to bring our community together.
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national funder of creative placemaking that empowers communities to inject new life into underused public spaces through free, outdoor concerts, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series will present 8 free, family-friendly concerts to the public this summer at The Change Companies stage at the Brewery Arts Center.
This Saturday, July 31 the show starts at 7 p.m. and we are offering something different on The Change Companies stage, a takeover night by Loud As Folk who has curated an entire night of talented emerging artists in the spirit that has made Loud As Folk the hub for musicians in the West Coast songwriting scene.
Loud As Folk founder Spike McGuire explains, “I’m really excited for this takeover because it’s something different all the way around. Loud As Folk is a songwriter showcase that usually takes place in intimate theaters and Levitt is the quintessential, giant stage, outdoor summer concert. I put a lot of thought into a lineup of artists that could merge those two experiences.
The Rainbow Girls and The Sam Chase Trio are both experts in the craft of songwriting, which has always been Loud As Folk’s main focus. Both acts are also seasoned veterans of the festival circuit and no strangers to large stages. Whether you want to sit back, close your eyes, and visualize the stories of the songs — or break a sweat dancing in the street, moved by the music — I believe this show truly has something for everyone. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see collaborations between the artists, especially with myself and the opening act Rachael McElhiney”.
The remaining headlining acts for the season scheduled to perform are The Fire Scottish Music who will bring their high energy performance show to the stage on August 7, Southern Drawl Band with Keith Alan Barnett opening will return to Carson City for the first time in four years on August 14, emerging artists Los Coast will take the stage August 21 after an amazing year with their 2020 hi, a re-release of “A Change is Gonna Come” with Gary Clark, Jr. We will wrap up the series on August 28 with the band who opened our very first Levitt AMP concert in 2016, Mumbo Gumbo with Moons of Jupiter opening.
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which has an open setting. There will be food trucks, drink vendors and kids activities at every concert. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota Streets. Admission is free.
We appreciate the public’s cooperation as we follow and enforce the current COVID-19 safety guidelines for each show as we know that these guidelines may change throughout the season. Visit breweryarts.org for a full schedule of concerts, directions and information on parking and wheelchair accessibility.
Since 2016, Carson City was named one of 18 small to mid-sized towns and cities across America to win a Levitt AMP Grant Award of $25K in matching funds to present a free concert series at what is now, The Change Companies stage in 2021.
The Brewery Arts Center submitted the Levitt AMP proposal and is presenting the concert series. In an effort to inspire and engage communities across the country around the power of creative placemaking, the Levitt Foundation invited the public to choose the Top 25 finalists through online voting.
