Carson Middle School no-longer-8th-graders celebrated their achievements on Thursday with a commencement parade at the middle school.

Teachers, administrators and staff lined the “parade” route on campus along with Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies, to celebrate the students who will be headed off to high school at the end of the summer.

Keith G. Fletcher age 70 of Carson City, Nevada passed away January 12, 2022 surrounded by his family and friends.

Keith was born February 22, 1951 in Toronto, Ontario Canada to Robert Keith and Margaret Fletcher (Norris).

Nevada State Champion for Pole Vault, Kai Miller, will continue with Track & Field for the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. Miller holds the Carson High School Record for Pole Vault clearing 16 feet, 2 inches.

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Troopers with the Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division, responded to reports of a fatal crash that occurred in the area of 238 Old Highway 50 and Pray Meadow Road in Glenbrook.

The Nevada State Fair will be back in Carson City June 2-5 with a carnival at Mills Park among other events.

Each day the fair and carnival will be accessible from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Mills Park, located at 1111 E. William Street.

Nevada Health Centers’ School-based Health Center, located at 618 W. Musser Street in Carson City, will be offering COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations to adults and children during a walk-in clinic on Wednesday, June 1, from 9 to 11 a.m. A parent or guardian is required to attend the appointment of a minor receiving the vaccines.

Effective immediately, dogs are no longer permitted on the Waterfall Trail or the North Kings Loop Trail, both of which are in the Kings Canyon area and near Kings Creek. This restriction has been implemented to better protect Kings Creek, which is a source of Carson City’s drinking water.

Reports of multiple shots fired late Tuesday night led to a vehicle pursuit that extended from Carson City into Lyon County and then back to Carson City. Two are in custody after the suspect vehicle crashed, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Carson High Safe Grad is in need of 70 more volunteers for Safe Grad Night happening this Saturday and Sunday, June 4-5.

Safe Grad has been a tradition for Carson High since 1988, started by community volunteers, after a series of graduation incidents and deaths related to alcohol. The main goal is to prevent the use of alcohol and drugs and the consequences, including driving drunk, for graduates or others who might be hurt.

Lyon County Sheriff's Office reports Wednesday morning that one lane of USA Parkway/Highway 439 at the roundabout in Silver Springs is open after the road was closed earlier for a hazmat incident. As of around 6:40 a.m. crews were on scene cleaning up.
