Carson City Sheriff: Random multiple shots fired overnight leads to pursuit, arrests after crash
Reports of multiple shots fired late Tuesday night led to a vehicle pursuit that extended from Carson City into Lyon County and then back to Carson City. Two are in custody after the suspect vehicle crashed, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The two suspects face multiple charges, and two guns were recovered with "quite a few spent rounds" found in the streets, in the suspect vehicle as well as ammunition in the vehicle, which crashed in the area of Woodside and Stanton at around midnight.
"We received numerous reports of shots fired, from Roop Street to Northridge and in residential areas east of there," said Sheriff Furlong.
A CCSO deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area of Morgan Mill and Deer Run and attempted to do a traffic stop before the vehicle sped away. The vehicle pursuit began as CCSO deputies followed the vehicle along Highway 50 into Lyon County and Dayton Valley Road before it turned around and returned to Carson City, said Sheriff Furlong.
The vehicle matched the description of a vehicle reported stolen earlier, but it was later determined to not be the same vehicle, he said.
The pursuit ended in a crash at Woodside and Stanton and involved two other vehicles, a flatbed truck that crashed into a car, and property damage to a fence, Furlong said.
"We believe these are the same (suspects) who were randomly driving and shooting," said Furlong. Both suspects were taken to the hospital for medical clearance and then to jail.
A few hours later there were reports of shots fired again, said Furlong. Deputies checked the area and did not find any shell casings.
In custody are Jose Escobedo-Garcia, 27, and Oscar Eliseo Herrera, 26. Both of Carson City.
Herrera was arrested for suspicion of felony shooting a firearm from a vehicle, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, eluding with endangerment person/property and the following alleged misdemeanor offenses: reckless driving with injury, driving with a revoked license, driving with expired registration and probation violation. Bail: $80,000 bondable.
Escobedo-Garcia was booked for suspicion of felony shooting a firearm from a vehicle, gross misdemeanor obstructing and resisting an officer and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Bail: $40,000 bondable.
