The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City will host the musical instrumental ensemble Verviers Pronounced Verviers, the ensemble features cello, guitars, percussion, keys. The set will include all original compositions and feature a few guest soloists bringing in the trumpet and mandolin.

An alarming surge in the number of deadly motor vehicle crashes this spring across northern Nevada is cause for serious concern for state law enforcement.

There have been 20 confirmed motor vehicle related fatalities since March in the Northern Command area of Washoe, Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey and Churchill counties, according to Nevada State Police. Of those, more than a dozen have happened in the past two weeks.

The Carson City Symphony Association will present a free concert featuring Music of the Andes on Saturday, May 21, at 2:30 p.m., at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive in Carson City. The concert features Kantu Inka —Carlos and Julie Ocampa — who have been presenting Peruvian Andean music in the U.S. since 2003.

On May 7, 2022, four suspects pushed out shopping carts of merchandise without paying for the merchandise from the Carson City Kohl’s Department Store at 3871 South Carson Street in Carson City. The suspects fled in a gold 2003 Acura MDX.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will take place on Thursday, May 19, 2022 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Bob Crowell Boardroom of the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William St.

A 41-year-old inmate at Carson City jail was booked Monday for suspicion of felony battery by a prisoner, according to a sheriff's office report.

Seven local bowlers were inducted in the inaugural class of the Carson Country Association Hall of Fame at the annual meeting for the association on Saturday, April 23, at Carson Lanes. Carson Country is the local association of the U.S. Bowling Congress.

Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol Division is reporting three fatal crashes that happened Sunday afternoon on Northern Nevada highways in Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a a flatbed trailer reported stolen from the Johnson Lane area.

Sculpture in our home gardens can take many forms and describe many feelings. Some are representations of animals, while others are more abstract, like the sculptures in public sculpture gardens. Some can be found in nature and are often called specimen plants.

The "Super Flower" or "Blood Moon" total lunar eclipse happens tonight, Sunday, May 15, and it will be visible from across the northern Nevada, Sierra and Lake Tahoe region as long as the clouds cooperate.

UPDATE 7:37 p.m.: Care Flight has been called.

At 7:30 p.m. a motorcycle crash with injury was reported on the I-580 southbound on ramp at Fairview.

The rider reportedly crashed the bike and was said to have blood coming from his head.

UPDATE 6:55 p.m.: Three individuals have been detained and their vehicle was cleared.

Just after 6:45 p.m. Carson City Sheriff’s Office deputies and Nevada State Police troopers shut down Fairview at I-580.

Traffic has been blocked at this time in both directions.

According to dispatch, a felony traffic stop was conducted.

Motorists must seek alternate routes until the area has been cleared.

UNR Extension, gardening, master gardener

UNR Extension will be offering Master Gardener program updates for residents on Thursday, May 19, from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. and Thursday, May 26, from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Nevada’s suicide rate is currently ranked 5th in the nation; there is no question about the devastating effects of suicide, or the countless lives shattered by it.

Suicide Prevention Network aims to be a champion in decreasing suicide and its impact on our community by providing suicide prevention and awareness through education, intervention, and support services for all.

Activists in support of abortion rights gathered Saturday afternoon at the Nevada State Capitol to protest against the nationwide issues surrounding the potential roll back of Roe v. Wade.

In Nevada, abortion is legal for any reason up to 24 weeks and legal after 24 weeks if the pregnancy is determined to potentially be fatal to the mother.

The most energy efficient school district in the state of Nevada, Carson City School District, took time to honor school leaders and students for sustainability efforts at its first inaugural “Green Impact” Awards Ceremony Thursday evening, May 12, 2022, at the Governor’s Mansion. Most notably, district leaders earned 3 of only 10 total Trailblazer Awards available nationally through the Green Schools National Network.

Carson City’s greenUP! program will be the topic at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. greenUP! president Donna Waldon will educate club members on the program’s ‘Green Box to Go” program in Carson City’s Green Dining District. The meeting takes place Tuesday, May 17, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom. The public is invited to attend.
