69 cent a month electric bill increase proposed with NV Energy’s Natural Disaster Protection Plan application

Event Date:
June 8, 2022 - 6:00pm

A plan for NV Energy to recover costs associated with its 2021 Natural Disaster Protection Plan will go before the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada during a consumer session on June 8.

If approved the average monthly residential electric bill would be 69 cents for northern Nevada customers and 92 cents for southern Nevada customers. The rates would be effective Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023.

The public has the opportunity to comment on NV Energy’s application for the cost recovery of the regulatory assets associated with the development and implementation of its 2021 Natural Disaster Protection Plan.

In its application, NV Energy seeks to recover 2021 NDPP costs totaling approximately $51.865 million. NV Energy proposes NDPP rates of $0.00148 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for Southern Nevada customers and $0.00155 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for Northern Nevada customers.

In Northern Nevada, NV Energy proposes to increase the average monthly residential bill for electric customers an estimated 0.76 percent or $0.69. For Southern Nevada customers, the proposed rate would increase the average monthly residential bill for electric customers an estimated 0.72 percent or $0.92.

The PUCN may approve rates as proposed, or decrease or increase rates as necessary to ensure rates are just and reasonable. The Commission may consider and adopt alternative proposals not contained within the filing, but which are related to the subject matter of the filing and supported by substantial evidence, according to the PUCN.

Public comment regarding this application will be accepted in-person or telephonically at the consumer session. Written comments also may be submitted to the PUCN electronically through the Electronic Filing System on the PUCN’s website, by hand-delivery, or via U.S. Mail.
