Happy Wednesday and cheers to the Silver State as the countdown continues to the Nevada Day celebration. October is a wonderful month as the days get shorter, the nights are cooler, the leaves are exploding in color and, of course, the annual Nevada Day Treasure Hunt is underway. CARSON CITY — New Nevada residents can transfer their out-of-state driver license or ID and apply for voter registration without an appointment at the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Empire Elementary School’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Teacher Adrienne Wiggins was honored Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, as one of the five statewide finalists for the Nevada Teacher of the Year, recognized by the Nevada Department of Education.

This evening, looking out my back door, I could see that the moon was very bright and cast nice crisp shadows. Today is the full moon for October and the next one will be Nov. 9. As I spied the moon I saw that Jupiter was just above and to the right and was also very clear. Several of Jupiter's moons were also visible.

LAKE TAHOE, CA — Lake Tahoe is famous for its blueness. The growth and spread of algae is one reason blue lakes around the world can go green in the summer.

Algae forms the base of many food webs, and most algae in Lake Tahoe, though sometimes unattractive, does not pose a health risk to people or animals that enjoy the Lake.

The Reno Jazz Orchestra will present “Creative Directions in Jazz” at the Nevada Museum of Art on October 21, 2022.

26-year-old Reid Jensen Williamson was arrested on DUI causing death and hit and run causing death after allegedly fleeing the scene after striking a pedestrian Thursday evening.

The crash took place just after 5 p.m. at S. Stewart and Little Lane, and Williamson was detained at Little Lane and Parkland Avenue just before 6 p.m.
