A 67-year-old Carson City man in jail as an inmate faces a felony charge of battery after a fight on Tuesday with another inmate.

Billy Darrell Harris was arrested Jan. 7, 3:52 p.m. According to the report, jail officers separated two men, including Harris, from the fight and interviewed them both after reading them their Miranda rights.

A former Carson City Sheriff's Office accountant faces eight felony charges of embezzlement after allegedly stealing at least $100,000 of bail and search and seizure money over several years.

Laura Wissert, 44, is expected to turn herself into Carson City Jail today after an arrest warrant was issued by a judge. Her bail is set at $20,000. She has retained Noel Waters as her attorney, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The Nevada Division of State Parks administers grant funds from the Recreational Trails Program of the Federal Highway Administration. Approximately $1.2 million in funding is available for the 2014 fiscal year.

Applications are due Friday, March 7, 2014 by 5 p.m. Federal, state, city and county governments, special governmental districts, trail organizations and private individuals are potentially eligible for the grants.

The Wildcats are ranked 16th, marking the seventh straight season that Coach D.J. Whittemore’s team has been nationally ranked in the preseason. It ties the Wildcats with Iowa Western for the longest-running streak for inclusion in the preseason top-20 national rankings.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit invites the public to Ski with a Ranger at Heavenly Mountain Resort beginning Friday, Jan. 17, 2014.

Tours begin at the top of the gondola at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. every Monday and Friday. Spanish Ski with a Ranger returns March 7, 2014, with tours offered every Friday at 10:30 a.m. Both programs last approximately one-hour and continue through April 11, 2014, weather permitting.
