On Monday night (January 13th) at the Gold Dust West Bowling Center on Hwy. 50 in Carson City the Western Nevada College baseball team will be having their first ever "Bowling Night." This would be a great opportunity for the community to come down and meet the players and coaches. The fun will start at 7pm. Come out and see the nationally ranked team before they start the season! It's going to be a lot of fun!

Uniform Crime Reporting preliminary data for 2013 shows that the crime rate for Carson City has dropped to its lowest level since 1994.

According to press release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office, the “Crime Index”, measuring the number of major crime events (homicide, rape, robbery, burglary, assault, etc.), showed less than 1,700 events, an 11 percent decrease from the year 2012, and a 14 percent decrease from 2011.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District would like to remind the community to be aware of the increased chance of wildfire due to record low precipitation and windy conditions.

"Wildfires can happen year round," said BLM Fire Management Officer Shane McDonald." The Washoe Drive Fire, which destroyed homes and forced evacuations, started in January."

With the onset of the new year last week, public health inspections previously handled by the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services were transferred to Carson City Health and Human Services, Environmental Health Division.

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday in the 300 block of C Street. Kevin Lea Nunez is being held without bail on suspicion of probation violation.

According to the arrest report, an anonymous caller spoke with dispatch reporting that Nunez had just been released from prison and had been drinking. The caller wished to remain anonymous and wanted to also report Nunez was not to be drinking as part of his conditions.

Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell will present the State of the City address, with the theme "New Year: New Opportunities," on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, 7:30 a.m. at the Carson Nugget. The event is presented by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales announced Wednesday his candidacy for sheriff of Carson City.

Gonzales says he is running for sheriff with the goal of increasing integrity, transparency and accountability in the Sheriff’s Office, as well as restructuring the department to put more officers on patrol and use monies to better protect and serve Carson City and its residents.
