The Western Nevada College baseball team isn't conceding anything, yet
Submitted by on Mon, 04/26/2010 - 4:22pmDespite losing three of four games last weekend at College of Southern Idaho to fall two games behind College of Southern Nevada in the race for the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season title, WNC coach D.J. Whittemore is still holding out hope his team can catch the Coyotes with eight games left.
"We're not out of it yet," Whittemore said. "Obviously we've got to take care of our business and we need a little help. We're still in the hunt for the title."

Saturday was no exception, as the Wildcats had to settle for a split against College of Southern Idaho during their Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader. CSI won the opener 3-1 before the Wildcats came back to take the nightcap 2-1 at Skip Walker Field.

CHS couldn't overcome the first inning
Submitted by on Fri, 04/23/2010 - 10:43pmIt looked like another long night for the Carson High baseball team and starting pitcher David Charles after Spanish Springs scored four unearned runs in the first inning.
To the young Senators' credit, they settled down and played solid the rest of the way, but still couldn't overcome that first inning in a 5-0 loss to the Cougars in a nonleague game on Friday at Ron McNutt Field.
"That's a 1-0 ballgame," said CHS Cody Farnworth if not for the first inning troubles. "That's tough to battle back from."

WNC (34-11) fell to 22-8 in the SWAC and if College of Southern Nevada swept Colorado Northwestern Community College as expected on Friday, also fell out of first place in the conference, one game behind the Coyotes.
Rasner puts it all together in Japan

After struggling and losing in his first three starts, Rasner pitched a gem late Thursday night, throwing a complete game in the Eagles 11-2 win over the Nippon Fighters. In picking up his first win of the season, Rasner pitched eight shutout innings before allowing two runs in the ninth.

Cockerill, a junior, finished at 4-under par 212 (68-71-73) during the tournament held at Hunter Ranch Golf Course. He tied teammate Teddy Schrier for second-place on the individual leader board.

What the Carson High junior heard moments later truly was special when her leap was measured at 37 feet, 2-1/2 inches to break an 18-year-old school record and win a gold medal during the Senators' Capital Classic held at the Jim Frank Track and Field Complex.

How else to explain the Western Nevada College baseball team's four-game sweep of College of Southern Nevada this weekend. After two improbable comebacks in which WNC beat CSN in its final at bat both times 5-3 and 6-5 in 11 innings on Friday, the Wildcats did it again.
