Former Western Nevada College standout Jerome Pena enjoyed a big day offensively as he helped No. 8 TCU to a 7-1 victory against UNLV on Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas.

Despite losing three of four games last weekend at College of Southern Idaho to fall two games behind College of Southern Nevada in the race for the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season title, WNC coach D.J. Whittemore is still holding out hope his team can catch the Coyotes with eight games left.
"We're not out of it yet," Whittemore said. "Obviously we've got to take care of our business and we need a little help. We're still in the hunt for the title."

MINDEN -- Carson High's Alex Fallon continued to show consistency in the triple jump as she picked up a gold medal during the Big George Invitational track and field meet on Saturday.

The Carson High boys and girls swim teams warmed up for their huge High Desert League dual meet against Reno High in the Aqua 5 meet at the Carson Aquatic Facility on Saturday.

Ashley Hall hit a walkoff grand slam, her third home run of the game, to give the Western Nevada College softball team a 9-6 come-from-behind victory in its series finale against College of Southern Nevada on Saturday afternoon.

The Carson High J.V. baseball team cruised to a nonleague doubleheader sweep against Hug on Saturday, winning 18-7 and 11-1 in Reno.

Leaving 18 runners stranded on the bases, even in an 11 inning game, is hardly part of a recipe to success for any softball team.

Twin Falls, Idaho, has always been a difficult place to play for the Western Nevada College baseball team.
Saturday was no exception, as the Wildcats had to settle for a split against College of Southern Idaho during their Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader. CSI won the opener 3-1 before the Wildcats came back to take the nightcap 2-1 at Skip Walker Field.

It won't show up in the box score or the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings, however, the Western Nevada College softball team possibly turned in its best performance of the season on Friday despite losing both ends of a doubleheader against College of Southern Nevada.

It looked like another long night for the Carson High baseball team and starting pitcher David Charles after Spanish Springs scored four unearned runs in the first inning.
To the young Senators' credit, they settled down and played solid the rest of the way, but still couldn't overcome that first inning in a 5-0 loss to the Cougars in a nonleague game on Friday at Ron McNutt Field.
"That's a 1-0 ballgame," said CHS Cody Farnworth if not for the first inning troubles. "That's tough to battle back from."
 

With a playoff berth potentially hanging in the balance, Moriah Lane broke out her big bat and Lindsay Ashbaugh turned in a big pitching performance as the Carson High softball team rallied for a 9-4 Sierra League victory at home against Wooster on Friday afternoon.

Zac Harjes pitched a one-hitter for the Carson High J.V. baseball team in its 8-0 nonleague victory at home against Hug on Friday afternoon.

The Western Nevada College baseball team sustained a crash that will be tough to recover from on this day in the Scenic West Athletic Conference race after being swept at College of Southern Idaho, losing the opener 2-1 and the nightcap 3-0.
WNC (34-11) fell to 22-8 in the SWAC and if College of Southern Nevada swept Colorado Northwestern Community College as expected on Friday, also fell out of first place in the conference, one game behind the Coyotes.

It had been a tough start to the season for Carson High graduate Darrell Rasner in the Japan League, but Rasner finally put it all together in his last start on the mound for the Rakuten Eagles. After struggling and losing in his first three starts, Rasner pitched a gem late Thursday night, throwing a complete game in the Eagles 11-2 win over the Nippon Fighters. In picking up his first win of the season, Rasner pitched eight shutout innings before allowing two runs in the ninth.

Due to wet grounds grounds from a storm that passed through Carson City, the start of Friday's Western Nevada College-College of Southern Nevada doubleheader has been changed to 2 p.m. at Edmonds Sports Complex.

GENOA -- Colin McCulloch responded well to a new challenge and in the process emerged as a first-time leader for the Carson High boys golf team on Wednesday afternoon.

J.T. Cockerill of Carson City wound up tied for second-place as he helped California State University-Satnislaus to second-place as a team at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday in Paso Robles, Calif.
Cockerill, a junior, finished at 4-under par 212 (68-71-73) during the tournament held at Hunter Ranch Golf Course. He tied teammate Teddy Schrier for second-place on the individual leader board.

Jonathan Singer of Carson City, now playing golf as a freshman at Adelphi University, was named Northeast-10 Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday.

There's still plenty of buzz over what happened this past weekend at John L. Harvey Field when the Western Nevada College baseball team pulled off a four-game sweep of College of Southern Nevada.

It's been a long road back, but the Western Nevada College baseball team has now gained an inside track to the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season championship with three weeks to go.

How else to explain the Western Nevada College baseball team's four-game sweep of College of Southern Nevada this weekend. After two improbable comebacks in which WNC beat CSN in its final at bat both times 5-3 and 6-5 in 11 innings on Friday, the Wildcats did it again.

It was a repeat of Friday as the Western Nevada College softball team struggled in the opener of a doubleheader, but came back to give itself a chance to win the nightcap.
 

Former Western Nevada College star Brian Barnett went 2-for-5 with three runs and an RBI and also hit his 16th double of the season for the University of Nevada baseball team in its 22-0 win at Seattle.

Three runs was the difference for the Carson High softball team when it was knocked out of the Reed Easter Tournament with back-to-back losses on Saturday morning in Sparks.
