Wildcats bring A (plus) game to sweep Coyotes
Submitted by on Fri, 04/16/2010 - 11:35pmTo beat any conference leader, a team needs to bring its "A" Game to the field. Make that "A-plus" if you want to beat a team that is ranked No. 2 in the nation, and even then, it still doesn't hurt to have a little luck on your side.
The Western Nevada College baseball team was successful on both of those counts Friday afternoon to beat College of Southern Nevada twice on the last pitch of the game during a Scenic West Athletic Conference showdown.

New-look Capital Classic set for Saturday

The meet, which will mark the season home opener for Carson's varsity team, is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the throwing events and 9 a.m. with the running events. Northern 4A schools Galena, Damonte Ranch, North Valleys, Douglas and Carson will be joined in the field by North Tahoe, Incline, Whittell, Rite of Passage, Tonopah and Sierra Lutheran.

A daunting task awaits the Western Nevada College baseball team when instate rival College of Southern Nevada comes to John L. Harvey Field this weekend.
CSN is the nation's No. 1 ranked team and has a three-game lead over the Wildcats in the race for the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular season title. The first place Coyotes are 21-3 in the SWAC while WNC (30-9) is 18-6.

It's mid-April and the Carson High baseball team stands fifth in the Sierra League with some ground to make up if it wants to qualify for the Northern 4A Regional Tournament. Don't count the Senators out just yet because they're looking to move up.

A great double-play for skiers and hikers: Death Valley and Mammoth

I did this once and enjoy it immensely, hiking in the low and then turning around and skiing on the high. It was May of a couple of years ago when I loaded the car with camping gear and tucked a pair of skis on the roof rack. I headed south down 395, inflated with the idea of hiking around Death Valley National Park and then stopping off at Mammoth Mountain on the way home to ski.

However, the Wildcats were unable to slam the door shut as North Idaho College rallied to score twice in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a 7-6 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Senators then rode a complete game pitching performance from Casey Wolfe to take the second game 2-1 at Ron McNutt Field.
