Carson High baseball players Colby Blueberg, Nick Domitrovich and David Charles have all been invited to a Major League tryout to be held at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Manogue.
Blueberg, Domitrovich and Charles are among 60 college and high school players who were invited to the tryout which is being held by the Major League Scouting Bureau. Major League and college scouts will attend the tryout.

After coming up short on the last day last year, A.J. McInerney and the Coronado Cougars emerged with top honors from the NIAA 4A State Boys Golf Championships on Tuesday in Las Vegas.

Former Carson High standout Kayla Sanchez ran to sixth-place in the 400-meter hurdles and ran legs for Arizona State University relay teams that were top-three finishers at the Pacific-10 Conference Track and Field Championships in Berkeley, Calif., on Sunday.

Carson City's J.T. Cockerill and the Cal State Stanislaus University men's golf team will swing into action on Tuesday at the NCAA Division II Tournament in Noblesville, Ind.

Former Western Nevada College star Brian Barnett had his best day so far with the University of Nevada baseball team as the Wolf Pack rolled to an 11-0 win at Sacramento State on Sunday.

Brian Lester won the 1-meter diving while Ashton McIntosh, Tim Grunert, Zachary White and Luke Gentner combined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay as Carson High's boys took second as a team at the Northern 4A Regional Swimming and Diving Championships, which wrapped up at the Carson City Aquatic Facility on Saturday afternoon.

RENO — Richard Shroy went into the last lap of his boys 1,600 meters race merely trying to hang on for third-place and qualify for state. The Carson High senior did much better than that, using a blistering late kick to surge from third-place to a gold medal in the event during the Northern 4A Regional Track and Field Championships at Damonte Ranch High School on Saturday afternoon.

CARSON CITY — Is the next Phil Mickelson or Michelle Wie living in the Carson City area? Well the Fred and Judy Alexander Foundation wants to find out. That's why the foundation and the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Northern California PGA Section will hold a free golf clinic — The 18th Annual Fred Alexander Memorial Family Golf Clinic — for children ages 6 to 17 on Sunday, May 16 at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City.
The event begins at 11:45 a.m. and last until 4:30 p.m., with registration running from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Western Nevada College baseball team pounded out nine hits and held 17-year-old phenom Bryce Harper to a 1-for-5 day and struck him out three times.
So that led to another win over College of Southern Nevada, right? Not even close. CSN showed why its arguably the best team in the nation -- and possibly the deepest -- by beating WNC 9-2 on Saturday in the championship round of the Scenic West Athletic Conference postseason tournament in Henderson.

RENO — Now that the Carson High softball team has come close to doing something really special, CHS coach Scott Vickrey wants his squad to build on its momentum for possibly even a better finish next year.
 
Carson's season came to an end on Saturday at Bishop Manogue in the Northern 4A playoffs as the Senators were eliminated by Damonte Ranch 11-1 in five innings. But Carson's third place finish at zone should serve as a springboard for his young team, Vickrey said, which is losing just three seniors in Daria Leid, Megan Hein and Natalie Morrow.

Duane Kuiper keeps using the line when describing the San Francisco Giants, but the Western Nevada College baseball team might as well steal the term from Kuiper and use it as its slogan.
 
WNC baseball -- TORTURE!

Former Western Nevada College star Lance Ray is doing everything he can to help the University of Kentucky baseball team make the postseason.

Reno and Galena will meet to decide the Northern 4A Regional Baseball Tournament championship on Saturday in Minden.

RENO -- A long time has passed since the Carson High softball program reigned as a state champion in 1994 and won four successive zone tournament championships between 1995 and '98. And while the Senators still have a way to go before they return to that level, they are at least knocking on the door after splitting two games at the Northern 4A Regional Tournament on Friday afternoon.

Despite taking an early lead, the Western Nevada College softball team was unable to hang on as it dropped a 6-3 decision to Snow College in an elimination game at the Region 18 Tournament on Friday morning in Salt Lake City.

The Reno Huskies advanced to the finals of the Northern 4A Regional Baseball Tournament with a 9-4 victory against Galena on Thursday afternoon in Minden.

College of Southern Nevada scored four runs in the first two innings and went on to a 5-1 opening round victory against Western Nevada College in the Region 18 Softball Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Salt Lake City.

Everything is magnified in the postseason. Every left baserunner. Every error. So what could be considered just another loss in the regular season that really wasn't that bad of an effort, isn't so in the postseason.

RENO -- Sure, the Carson High softball team had its share of heroes on Thursday afternoon. When all was said and done, however, an all-around performance by "Team" Carson was the difference in an 8-5 victory against Reed at the Northern 4A Regional Softball Tournament at Bishop Manogue High School.

The University of Nevada rifle team has received a public recognition award as part of the 2010 Division I Academic Performance Program.
Leah Taboada, a Carson High graduate, is a senior on the Wolf Pack rifle team.

Western Nevada College and College of Southern Nevada will get together to revive their instate rivalry in the opening round of the Scenic West Athletic Conference playoffs on Thursday in a game scheduled to start at noon (MST) in Salt Lake City.

"Athlete-speak" calls for all players to shrug off so-called snubs. But athletes are human beings, too, and the Western Nevada College baseball team may have some extra motivation going into Thursday's game against Salt Lake Community College.

Former Western Nevada College star Lance Ray continued his red hot streak with the best game of his young career so far at the University of Kentucky on Tuesday.
 
Ray hit two home runs, but it wasn't enough for the Wildcats in a nonconference game at Indiana as Kentucky lost to the Hoosiers in Bloomington, Ind., 18-17 in 10 innings. Ray helped Kentucky build a 16-8 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but Kentucky couldn't hold on.

MINDEN -- They took different routes on Wednesday, but at the end of the day, the stage was set for a showdown between the Galena Grizzlies and Reno Huskies at the Northern 4A Regional Baseball Tournament.

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The Supermodified Racing Association will participate in a special exhibition this Saturday at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. The exhibition will be a part of All American’s Open Wheel Challenge, which includes USAC sprint cars headlining a number of other open-wheel divisions.
