I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: August 29-30

Carson Animal Shelter Initiative, better known as CASI, hosts their annual Bark, Whine, and Dine Fundraiser at Fuji Park. Animal lovers can also head to Carson Catalina Apartments for a rummage sale that benefits the Carson Tahoe SPCA. The Carson City Sheriff's Office young Explorers will host a fundraising car wash; The Marine Corp League can be found at the north Carson Walmart; half of the donations received will go to Deputy Howell’s family fund. And don’t miss out on the drought-friendly water balloon ice bucket challenge raising funds for ALS at Butler Meats on Sunday.
SATURDAY:
- Car Wash fundraiser for Carson City Sheriff’s Office Explorers at Unique Sounds: 3080 Hwy 50 East (10am-2pm)
- Virginia City Ferrari Hill Climb
- Back to School at Carson Hot Springs (Free 17 and younger admission per paid adult; outdoor pools only; 7am-10pm)
- Rummage Sale fundraiser for Carson Tahoe SPCA at Carson Catalina Apartments: 700 Hot Springs Rd. (7am-ish until?)
- Annual Outreach and Fundraiser by the Marine Corps League of Carson City Silver State- Detachment 630 at the Walmart store on Retail Drive (8am-5pm; half of the donations go to the family of fallen Carson City Sheriff’s Office Deputy and former U.S. Marine Carl Howell)

I’ve had comic strips published in school and community newspapers. I’ve also illustrated for a children’s book and produced cartoon designs for businesses. I’m an Oregon native and a graduate of Oregon State University. But I am now happily relocated to Northern Nevada since 2003. I’ve been married for almost 10 years. My wife and I have resided in Carson City for over seven years.

With a reception on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 5 to 7 p.m. There will be snacks, desserts and coffee provided, as well as beer and wine available for sale.
Linda Arnn Arteno is a landscape photographer based in Northern Nevada. Her passion for the beauty that surrounds her has taken her all over the West, exploring the Pacific coast, deserts, mountain peaks, National and State parks and everything in between.

Sunday, August 23: Things to do around Carson City

Don’t miss out on a trip to Virginia City via the Virginia and Truckee Steam Train: locals get a discount on Sundays when they book online. Ormsby Post Acute Care is hosting a classic car show for their residents, so if you have an automobile that fits the bill, please head on over. The Minden-Tahoe Airport is the home to Aviation Roundup Air Show this weekend. You won’t want to miss the USAF Thunderbird Flight Team. Also on some fierce wheels this Sunday are the Carson Victory Rollers. Our roller derby team is hosting a scrimmage and collecting donations of school supplies at the Community Center.

An aviation air show at the Minden Airport, the coin show and fair at the Nevada State Museum, and a fishing derby for the kids at Little Washoe Lake are only the tip of the iceberg. The Pavilion at Mills Park is where you’ll find the annual Carson High Football Boosters Fundraising BBQ. The Quicksilver Dog Agility Trials are always fun to watch, and they’ll be at Fuji Park all weekend. Carson Lanes has family fun indoors and out all day long during their Bowling Blast-off.

Storyteller Tom Wade at Dangberg Historic Park

Tom Wade grew up on a small farm in Michigan as the oldest son in a family of ten children, and honed his storytelling skills at the family dinner table. An energetic teller of mostly-true tales, Wade’s farm and family stories engage and delight people of all ages.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 08/21/2015 - 9:28amJazz & Beyond, Carson City Music Festival, continues on today, Friday, with three free events. The main, special event is the Count Basie 111th Birthday Bash, 8 to 10 p.m., on the Third Street Stage between Carson and Curry Streets in Carson City.
The Music Festival began in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of William "Count" Basie, Aug. 21, 1904-April 26, 1984.
TOCCATA Presents 9/11 Memorial Concert Series September 16-22

Sunridge Drive). The concert series commemorates the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy and features Verdi’s Requiem (selections) and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with Guest Artist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin.

Cuchine's discussion of his art collection begins at 6:15 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free.

A walking tour of our haunted past begins at the corner of Third and Curry with the Downtown Ghost Walk. Celebrate Prohibition-style at the Brewery Arts Center: the annual Speakeasy Swing Dance Party wants to see you in your finest zoot suit or flapper dress. Head back to the Eighties at Living the Good Life; DJ Bobby G is spinning the hits from yesteryear.
Tahoe's Howie Nave headed to Vegas as inductee of Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 08/14/2015 - 12:08pmLake Tahoe radio host, standup comedian and emcee of the Improv at Harveys, Howie Nave is among 62 Nevada radio and television personalities and managers who will be inducted into the Nevada Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame this Saturday in Las Vegas.
Nave, who has been with KRLT FM 93.9 as host of “Howie’s Morning Rush” at Lake Tahoe for nearly 15 years, will be inducted at the Four Seasons Hotel. He joins the ranks of more than 800 broadcasters from around Nevada who make up the Hall of Fame, celebrating its 20th year.
Chautauqua of Buffalo Bill Cody and Wild Bill Hickok at Dangberg Historic Park

Doors open and 11:30 and games start at 12:30. Buy in is $10 and extra packs are $5, all special games are $1. There is a snack bar available if you are hungry and the coffee is always free. CASI is a 501c3 non profit raising money to help build a new animal shelter.
Jazz and Beyond festival features CCAI Art in the Lobby on Tuesday
