Science & Nature Speaker Series takes place fourth Thursdays at River Fork Ranch in Minden

The Nature Conservancy's (TNC) River Fork Ranch Preserve is hosting the "Science and Nature Speaker Series" the 4th Thursday of every month beginning at 6 p.m.!

Experts from TNC and partner organizations will share their expertise on a variety of topics: water, birds, photography, native seeds and renewable energy.

UPDATE: Public Works director addresses weekend discolored water issue near Colorado Street

UPDATE MONDAY: Carson City Public Works responded Monday to the water issue in the area of Colorado Street on Saturday. The following is from Darren Schulz, Public Works Director:

Car on fire reported near Spooner Junction and Carson St.

UPDATE: The fire has been put out.

At 11:20 a.m., first responders were dispatched on report of a car on fire at the intersection of Spooner Junction and S. Carson St.

Carson Pass wildflower hike takes place Sunday, July 16

The flower hike with a docent in Meiss Country beginning at 10 a.m.

Carson City Moose Lodge 2709 hosts Second Annual Wine Train Event for Charities

On Friday, the Carson City Moose Lodge 2709 hosted their second annual wine train event in Mills Park from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office hosts 20th Annual Motor Officer Training Challenge Event

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office hosted their two-day 20th annual motor officer training at Battle Born Harley Davidson on beginning Friday.

This training event allows motorcycle officers, civilians, and retired military members from Nevada, California, Arizona, Utah, Washington and some places in Canada, to come together, learn new techniques and learn new safety skills.

Night Off the Streets manager to speak at Democratic luncheon

Speaking at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Jodi Miller, center manager for Night Off the Streets. NOTS works to connect clients with city agencies and non-profits to address issues that contribute to being unhoused, including medical problems, lack of affordable housing, and lost documents needed for job interviews. Miller oversees warming center operations and serves as a referral advocate to connect clients to services that help them find housing.

Google continues to list it across the street in its old location despite repeated changes by our staff (go figure!). Celebrating its forty-four years serving the community, we are open Sunday July 23rd from 1 to 3PM. A number of our artists will be there to meet you and share art perspectives. Please join us for refreshments and good conversation. Perhaps you will find a treasure to take home as well.

The board of directors for the Nevada Humane Society, a nonprofit in northern Nevada working to provide animals in the region with permanent homes, has announced the appointment of Jerleen Bryant as permanent CEO following a comprehensive, national candidate search.

Annual Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs to start and finish at WNC in Carson City this weekend

After one of the heaviest snow loads that Lake Tahoe has seen, you might think that ultrarunners in the Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs (A Glimpse of Heaven … A Taste of Hell) might need snow shoes instead of running shoes.

But the event on Saturday and Sunday is going on as planned, with all three races starting and finishing at Western Nevada College.
