Schlager captures gold medal, Senators tie for fourth as a team
Nick Schlager saw his state wrestling tournament progression become complete on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Third-place as a sophomore 112-pounder ... second-place as a junior 125-pounder ... and now the Carson High senior is a state champion the 135-pound weight class. Schlager can give credit for his ability to wrestle on his feet, and to think on his feet, to the 6-4 victory he scored against Colbey Garrison of Cimarron-Memorial at Cox Pavilion. Schlager, who became the 17th state individual wrestling champion in Carson history, finished his season with a 49-3 record. He advanced through the championship round with two pins on Friday, but his test against Garrison went right down to the final buzzer.
