Monday has returned, the kids head back to school, and the weather is gorgeous. Add a dose of beautiful to your day with a visit to an art Gallery. You’ll find a new exhibit in the Main Gallery at Western Nevada College. Carson City officials will be on hand today at the Community Center to answer questions and explain what is on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. While you’re there, take a good gander at the Great Basin Native Artists show on display in the Sierra Room.

April is almost here, and so is wine walk weekend, but don’t let this beautiful Wednesday pass you by. Get a dose of exercise and sunshine with the Wellness Mile Walking Group at Carson Tahoe Medical Center. Or enjoy your lunch hour at Comma Coffee and listen to Dave Leather strum his guitar. Tonight, you won’t want to miss the jazz jam at Living the Good Life: Rocky and Judith are your talented hosts. Sing your workweek blues away at Crossroads Karaoke.

Jellybean hangover, anyone? Monday always arrives too quickly, but luckily it has some good things going for it. The ‘Spring has Sprung’ Art Show opens today at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Center. Get into the swing of things with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s ‘Night Out’ at El Charro Avita. J and M Productions offer over 60 thousand songs to choose from, so karaoke at the Firkin and Fox is always a hit.

Spring has sprung. Days getting longer, flowers blooming, and now Easter weekend is upon us. Egg hunts, brunches, and even a parade are all part of the fun. Take a look at this weekend’s event summary for family fun, live music, and much more.

Easter bonnets, baskets, eggs, and bunnies are about to descend, and here is a sneak peek at where to find the fun. Most all of the egg hunts are free, but I've made sure to include an entry price if one exists.

Celebrate Easter at the Nevada State Railroad Museum (10am-4pm; Storytime at 11am; special crafts and egg hunt; $6 adults, children free)

I hope everyone had a great time yesterday. I also hope you are ready for the party to continue. The Brewery Arts Center has Celtic duo Men of Worth playing in the Black Box Theater, folk singer/songwriter Liam Kyle Cahill is at Living the Good Life, you'll find the Whitehats performing at the West Side Pour House, and Sassafras has a night of rock with Year of the Fist and Double Header. Those who love dance should check out World Dance Open Floor at Comma Coffee or the West Coast Swing night that Yaple's Ballroom hosts every third Friday. There is loads of history for free, or donations, if you are so inspired, at the Silver Terrace Cemeteries in Virginia City. However, Candace Wheeler, director of the Comstock Cemetery Foundation, has been a one-woman bastion against vandalism and defamation of the historic cemeteries of Virginia City, Gold Hill, and Silver City.

Grab the kids, your friends, whoever and take advantage of Breakfast and Bowl at Carson Lanes. They’ll feed you and let you hit the lanes until noon. The sunshine is calling at Washoe Lake State Park where a guided hike to the Beach begins at 1 p.m. Carson City Symphony has something special in store in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Community Center. Enjoy guest vocalist Madeline Eastman as they present something ‘On the Jazzy Side.’

Ray Bonneville, a New Orleans-influenced guitarist/songwriter, will perform in Silver City on Sunday as part of a benefit for the Silver City School House.

UPDATE: 9:44PM: Carson City sheriff's deputies have reached the injured man and two others, and they were going to take the man down the hill to an awaiting fire department rescue crew who will take him to the hospital. The weapon has been secured. The man had minor bleeding and was reported to be in stable condition. Deputies are investigating.

UPDATE 920PM: Care Flight had been called but canceled due to weather. Carson City sheriff's deputies were still trying to get to the injured man as of 9:23 p.m.

It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

As a child Gina Hill, then Gina Lopez, danced her way through Carson City. “it was all I ever knew, really,” she said. She was a regular in a floor show in a Mexican restaurant in the former Silver City Mall — where Lowe’s now stands. Earning her Screen Actors Guild card, she also starred in a McDonald’s commercial that ran annually.

Hiking near the waterfalls above Carson City two years ago, Heidi Smith was bitten by ticks. Now, 12-year old Smith is dealing with the ravages of Lyme disease, which include arthritis, heart problems, lung disorders, and now, she is suffering from a malaria-like illness. Medication for this illness runs $967 a month, and is not covered by the family’s insurance.

The Comstock Foundation for History and Culture is launching the Comstock History Lecture Series, which includes seven themed lectures that focus on Comstock History. The location of the lectures will rotate around the communities of the Comstock: Dayton, Silver City, Gold Hill and Virginia City. Tickets to attend the lectures vary between $5 and $10, and light refreshments will be provided for a donation.

Robert and Cecelia Stansbury had always planned to travel once they retired, but they had no idea where the journey would take them.

In preparation of leaving their jobs in the Bay area — he as a high school biology teacher and she as a legal assistant — they sold their share in a cabin in Hope Valley. With the proceeds, they bought an Airstream trailer.

Carson City:

• Treasure hunt on Saturday at the Carson City Historical Society Rummage and Yard Sale at the Forman-Roberts House Museum at 1207 N. Carson St. Free tours of the museum will also be available during the 9am-4pm event.
• Take a ride on the Virginia and Truckee #25 Steam Engine at the Nevada State Train Museum Friday through Monday.

Join us for the 5th annual Comstock Community Rummage Sale on Labor Day weekend in Silver City. The rummage sale is on Saturday and Sunday, September 5th and 6th from 9AM to 5PM at the Silver City Town Park, just 4 miles south of Virginia City off SR 342. Good Deals for a great cause. All proceeds benefit the Preservation of the Comstock Historic District.

Thunderstorms are on the horizon, so seize the day and enjoy the sunshine while it’s here. Muscle Powered has organized a monthly trash mob to help keep our trails clean, join them at US Bank to help out. The Ghost Walk returns: meet behind the Firkin and Fox for some local haunted history. Teens will enjoy a ‘Night at the Library’ with pizza and games. And as always, the Nevada State Railroad Museum beckons: this week with rides on the Steam Train available.

Happy Tuesday, Carson City! Summer is here in full force, so get yourself up to Lake Tahoe to escape the heat, or head over to your favorite watering hole for an icy beverage. Swing by Capital Ford this afternoon to get a glance at the Wounded Warrior’s High Five Touring Vehicle and make sure to leave your signature and a message on it, as well.

As part of a larger community effort to improve the quality of life in northern Nevada, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra will host its Tune Into Kids Fair on Tuesday, June 23 at the “town’s park” in Silver City as part of its annual Day of Action.

Western Nevada College has named 322 students to the Dean’s List for the 2015 spring semester. To qualify for WNC’s Dean’s List, students must complete at least 12 units during the semester and accumulate a grade point average of 3.50 or higher.

Bundle up, Carson City. We aren’t afraid of a little wind, are we? The Dangberg Home Historic Ranch is celebrating our infamous Washoe Zephyr this weekend with kite making, demonstrations, and more. The Friends of the Silver Saddle Ranch would love to see you at their open house on Saturday; if you’re an early riser, join them on a 7 a.m. bird walk. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is hosting their annual Cops and Kids Open House, so head to the courthouse for some fun.

Early in the week of May 3, persons unknown erected a sign near the junction of Main Street, Silver City (Highway 342), with the Truck Route (Highway 341) blaming Comstock Mining Inc., the Storey County Commissioners and the Nevada Department of Transportation for the closure of the highway (342) between Silver City and Gold Hill. Before dawn of the third day afterward, the sign had been obliterated and removed by a second party of persons unknown.
