I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: Oct. 10-11

Ready for the weekend, Carson City? Don’t miss out on the annual Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary. This event featuring crafts, games, and music is always fun. Learn about the Basque Culture at the Nevada State Museum. This month’s Family Fun Saturday features presentations and activities. Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans are hosting a free Legal Aid Fair in the Sierra Room of the Community Center for those of you with questions about civil, non-criminal, matters.

SATURDAY:

• Seniors Swim Free at Paradise Salon and Spa: Executive Pointe off College Pkwy (7am-5pm, except during class times; 55 and older; indoor adult warm saltwater pools)
• TMDTC Dog Agility Trials at Fuji Park (7am-7pm)
• HOSA: Future Health Professionals Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser at Applebee’s (8am-10am; $10, includes: pancakes, breakfast potatoes, bacon, and juice/coffee)
• Bikes for Badges to benefit the family of Deputy Sheriff Carl Howell begins at the Carson City Sheriff’s Department: 911 E Musser St. (8am-10am Same day Registration of cyclists $25; 10am-11am Ride Prep and Safety Briefing; 10:45am kick stands up and head to Chester’s Harley Davidson Reno; 12pm Music, lunch, entertainment, auctions, etc.)
• NAA Art Exhibit and Photography by Chas. H. McDonnell, III at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-5pm)

You need to eat and they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Let the Future Health Professionals of Carson High serve you at their fundraising breakfast at Applebee’s. Let your taste buds travel overseas for lunch: the Daughters of Norway Festival offers up Norse food, a Viking village, and more.

• 23rd Annual Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School: 2800 S. Saliman Rd. (9am-3pm; featuring book signing with children’s author Mary Randall, crafters, bounce houses, deluxe locally-grown pumpkins, music, food, gift baskets, raffles, a cake walk and lots of games)
• Firefighters’ Memorial Ceremony: addition of Clark County Firefighter, Darnell Brown to the Firefighters’ Memorial in Mills Park (10am)
• Free Legal Aid Fair Hosted by the Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans (VARN) in the Sierra Room of the Community Center (9am-3pm;General Civil Law (Non-Criminal), Family Law (Divorce, Custody, Guardianships, etc.), Bankruptcy, Wills and Estates, Foreclosure and Other Real Property Matters, Landlord/Tenant, Debt Collection, Government Benefits, Immigration, Employment Law, and more)
• Muscle Powered Bike Ride: meet by the Muscle Powered bike rack in front of the Community Pool at 841 N. Roop St. (9:40am-11:40am; must wear helmets and closed toed shoes; riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult)
• Third Annual Silver Bells Craft Fair in the Community Center Gym (10am-4pm; Benefits Carson City Senior Citizen Center's Meals on Wheels Program)
• Willow Bill’s Reindeer Light Check at the Stewart Indian School (10am-6pm; volunteers and extra Christmas lights are needed)
• Yard Sale to benefit homeless pets at the Nevada Humane Society Shelter: 3770 Butti Way (10am-2pm)

There are two fundraisers for the family of Deputy Sheriff Carl Howell today. Bikes for Badges will get their kickstands up at the Carson Sheriff’s Office and head out to Chester’s Harley Davidson in Reno for lunch, music, and fun. This afternoon, a Bull Riding Smackdown at Fuji Park is sure to thrill.

• Virginia and Truckee Round-trip Steam Train Ride: leave from Carson City Eastgate Depot on Flint Drive, off U.S. Highway 50 East at10am and Depart Virginia City Depot at 3pm (tickets limited, $52, seniors and veterans $48, kids 3-16 $32, arrive 30 minutes early)
• Family Fun Saturday: Basque Family Cultural Celebration at the Nevada State Museum (10am-3pm; Special Presentations: 10:30am Basques in Nevada by Iker Saitua, 11:30am learn to play ‘mus’ or Basque poker, 1:30pm A Fun Way to Learn Some Basque Words; Museum admission $8, under 18 free)

The zombies are loose in Virginia City. The annual Redrun obstacle course, saloon crawl, and after-party will flood the town with the walking dead, living insane, and those trying to survive. Spectators are welcome, but it’s probably more fun with some make-up.

Dirty Kid Discount from Portland hits the stage at Sassafras tonight with its crazy gypsy-folk punk rock antics, you won’t want to miss it.
