Ceremonies, holiday craft fairs and more: Carson City region set for Veterans Day weekend

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. St. Peter's Episcopal Church in downtown Carson City at the corner of Telegraph and Division streets will host its annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Items available include hand-crafted notecards, hand-made apparel, accessories, and items for the home. Raggedy Ann dolls and Christmas bears will provide unique gifts.

Scandinavian Festival coming this Saturday to Carson City

Carson Tahoe’s HopeFest9 Rocked: Record $225,000 raised to support local cancer patients

CARSON CITY — The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is thrilled to announce that their annual benefit concert, HopeFest9, raised over $225,000 in net proceeds. The event, which was held at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center on Friday, August 23, raised nearly $100,000 over 2018 event totals.

New York-based playwright, opera librettist, theatre critic, and arts journalist David Cote is the current visiting artist with the Resident Artist Program in historic Silver City, Nev.

While he's here in August and September, he hopes to draft a 70-minute, spoken, dramatic monologue for a male performer about carpentry, family, and faith. You can learn more about his creative process during a free, public talk at the Brick at 108 E Proctor Street in Carson City this Thursday August 22, 2019 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in an event that also includes a talk by Chicago-based sculptor Nicole Beck.

24-Hour Agony Ride Fundraiser to Benefit At-Risk Youth This Friday

Christian Encounter Ranch of Grass Valley, Calif., will hold its annual Agony Ride Fundraiser this Friday and Saturday, July 26th and 27th, in the Sierra Valley (about 1 hour northwest of Carson City off of Highway 70). During the event, cyclists commit to riding their bicycles as far as they can in 24 hours and are sponsored on a per-mile or flat rate basis.

Local rider Christopher Palmer, of Washoe Valley, will be riding for the 7th time this year. To date, he's ridden a total 1910 miles and raised more than $17,000 for the ministry.
