Wednesday events around Carson City feature Wheeled Food with movie at BAC, jazz and film festivals
We're heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 with sunny skies and activities throughout the day including day 2 of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, Jazz and Beyond festival performances to complement Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC followed by a classic outdoor movie to boot, "West Side Story." There's also a free creative event: "Community Art Card, Creating Social Circle" at Comma Coffee, Salsa dancing and more. Enjoy the day.

Here's what's happening Wednesday:
— Music Flicks and Kicks: Jukebox International Film Festival begins. Events scheduled throughout the day. Day 2 of a festive gathering that celebrates music-themed films. Wednesday will continue to deliver top-notch features about music and musicians, styles, songwriting and music video making. The Jukebox International Film Festival is the place music and flicks collide, bringing enthusiasts and artists together from across the country to the capital city for three days, offering free showings, meet-and-greets and more. The festival is presented in conjunction with Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival, a three-week, multi-venue concert series underway in the capital city. JIFF is designed to compliment the music festival by presenting films that celebrate music and musicians. The film festival began Monday and runs through Thursday, August 22, at the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: New Crop 2019. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, New Crop 2019, by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop. Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E Musser St., Carson City.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Graphically Defined. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) is delighted to present Graphically Defined, a group exhibition of work by seventeen Western Nevada College students. This exhibit includes a wide variety of art including ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting and photography that shows the diversity of the students’ creativity. The Business Resource Innovation Center (BRIC) is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. 108 E Proctor St., Carson City.
— Open Studio Painting at the Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. Work on your own paintings from subject matter you chose for yourself. The instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout the class. Students may use oil, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Dry media is also welcome. Bring your own supplies and source materials (such as photographs or drawings you wish to paint). This in an open enrollment drop in class so there is no need to enroll in advance. Classes: 9:00-12:00 or 12:30-3:30. $25 per session or $40 for the day, payment made to instructor. For more details contact the Brewery Arts Center here or by calling 883-1976.
— Nevada Artists Association Judged Photography Show and Summer Show. 10 a.m. The Nevada Artists Association Presents: The 2019 Judged Photography Show and The Members' Summer Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Mondays through Sept. 6. Come and see all the beautiful entries and vote for your top three People's Choice favorites in the Judged Photography Show. The Gallery also offers a wide variety of handcrafted gifts by local artists. We are located at 449 W. King Street at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.
— Basic Pottery Skills at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. Studio manager, Lucas Lamont, introduces you to clay, in this 6-week open start class, designed to get you started with clay. The syllabus includes pinch pots, coil pots, sculpture, and an introduction to wheel throwing. $175 for 6 week class including open studio times or $45 for drop in classes. 1215 S. Carson St. Carson City.
— Wine and Dine Watercolor Classes. 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Students get a reminder text each week. Drop in basis — no monthly commitment necessary. On rare occasions we meet elsewhere, students will be notified. To sign up, get a supply list or ask questions email Dana at tfa.create@gmail.com. The event is at Black Bear Diner inside Max Casino, 900 South Carson Street.
— Carson City's Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center. 5:30 p.m. The Brewery Arts Center campus in Carson City is alive Wednesdays this summer with the best food trucks around for a tasty midweek alternative. Wheeled Food Wednesday returns from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The BAC will have kid’s activities, plus beer and wine selections for adults. The Brewery Arts Center campus parking lot is at 511 West King Street.
— Jazz and Beyond: Carolyn Dolan & Big Red. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Carolyn Dolan and Big Red will perform at the Wheeled Wednesday event at a Brewery Arts Center outdoor stage. This is a free event. Come out and enjoy foods from a variety of food trucks. Carolyn Dolan has been leading Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country and Funk bands for over two decades. She has been entertaining audiences for over thirty years with her soulful blues voice accompanied by the blues harmonica which is always by her side ready to deliver. 511 West King Street, Carson City.
— Carson City Classic Cinema Club Presents "West Side Story." Following sundown at the BAC campus parking lot. Carson City Classic Cinema Club's Outdoor Summer Series continues this Wednesday with this essential musical classic starring Natalie Wood and Rita Moreno "West Side Story." This classic features The Jets, the Sharks, the score, the choreography, the love story. The free show begins immediately following Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center's Minnesota Street Stage - BYOChair or blanket... enjoy the various food trucks then settle in for a free movie under the stars! The movie will start as soon as sunset allows. This series of free films is generously sponsored by local realtor, Garrett Lepire - tell him, "thanks", next time you see him around town!
— Spanish Night, Salsa Dance Lessons in Downtown Carson City. 6 p.m. SALSA Wednesdays located at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio, 315 N. Carson St. Carson City. Classes are 6 pm Intermediate Level Class, 7 pm Beginning Level Class. Just $10 a class. Then after your dance lesson, just for us food and drink specials offered across the street at Battle Born Social! The dance floor is open, music will be playing and you can continue dancing and practicing your dance moves! The Salsa Social will cost NOTHING, only but your support to the restaurant and bar. Help us build us downtown Carson City with more fun activities that the whole family can join!
— Pajama Storytime at Carson City Library. 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Wear your PJs for a bedtime-themed storytime! Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Roop Street, Carson City.
— Community Art Card Creating Social Circle at Comma Coffee. 7 to 8:30 p.m. Free event. Bring a friend or family member or two and join us at this free, fun and creative event. A variety of art tools and collage items will be on hand, along with cards at no charge (donations are greatly appreciated to help replace materials, but are not necessary.) Bring your own photos and small memorabilia if you wish to personalize your card. One card per guest. Let’s come together to create and celebrate art! Please preregister online here as it helps with workshop preparation. Comma Coffee is located at 312 S Carson St, Carson City.
— Jazz and Beyond: Cherie, Ron & Eric at Jazz Jam, Living the Good Life Nightclub, Bistro Lounge. 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Enjoy the music of Cherie Shipley (vocals), Ron Savage (keyboard and vocals), and Eric Finkelstein (drums) at the weekly Wednesday night jazz jam session at Living the Good Life. Bring along your “ax” and join in on your favorite tunes. Come and enjoy a Jazz Jam as part of the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival extra event showcase. 1480 North Carson Street.
