Today is National Nature Photography Day, so have at it. Find something beautiful and take a snapshot. It’s also National Smile Power Day, so you may as well take some pictures of smiling faces as well. Do something to make Monday a little brighter and the day will fly by. The Friends of the Carson City Library are having a half-off everything sale at Browsers Corner Book Store all week, so go in and find yourself a summer read. Don’t forget to head into Classy Seconds Thrift Shop this week and grab a ticket for Taste of Downtown: it hits the streets on Saturday.

Do you want to meet an author or play with clay? Luckily, both of those are available to you today. The Friends of the Carson City Library are hosting Rockin’ Rev. Ken Haskins and Carson City Pottery needs help getting ready for an Empty Bowls bowl making event. Dancing shoes are perfect for salsa dance lessons at El Charro’s, but you may want cowboy boots for line dance lessons at Beercade. Practice those newly learned dance moves at Living the Good Life: DJ Bobby G is featuring Latin music. Sing to your heart’s content at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at the Feisty Goat Pub: it’s karaoke night.

So begins Willy Vlautin's noir novel "The Motel Life." Nevada scholar Patricia Cooper-Smith will facilitate a book discussion Thursday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Carson City Library Digitorium.

National Library Week will kick-off Sunday, April 12, 2 p.m., at the Carson City Library with a performance by “Primal Mates." This program has been described as “a delightful meeting of music and poetry ranging from Shakespeare to Kerouac.”

This event runs in conjunction with National Library Week (April 12-April 18); an annual celebration sponsored by the Friends of the Carson City Library.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for free ice cream day at Dairy Queen. Hopefully that will take the edge off of Monday.

A weeklong St. Patrick’s Sale at Browser’s Book Store kicks off today. Everything is half off and benefits the Friends of the Carson City Library.

We have almost made it to the weekend. Let visions of the Downtown Wine Walk, CASI’s Woof, Wine, and Whiskers, and the kick-off of Carson Comedy at the Carson Nugget keep you buoyant until then. The Friends of the Carson City Library are having a Holiday Food Drive for the Ron Wood Resource Center. Every day right here in Carson City there are families who do not have enough to eat. Help us make a difference. Bring in a donation of canned or packaged food and pick out a free book of your choice. Bring your donation any time between 9:30 am and 5:00 pm from Nov. 3 through Nov. 15 to the book store at 711 E. Washington St.

The Carson City Library will close on Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1 in recognition of Nevada Day, the State's annual statehood celebration.

Friday, Oct. 31 is the official Nevada Day state holiday wherein most state and local public agencies are closed. Annually the capital city hosts a number of traditional events on the Saturday following the last Friday in October — to include a parade down Carson Street starting at 10 a.m. 2014 marks the Silver State’s sesquicentennial —150 years of statehood.

The Friends of the Carson City Library are having a special evening sale of used records from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Browsers Corner Book Store, located at 711 East Washington St., across from the Carson City Library.

From the classics to Broadway Show Tunes, Big Band sound and more. Over 600 records will be available, priced from $1.00.

The Friends of the Carson City Library are having a BOGO (Buy One Get One Free) Book Sale the week of Monday June 16 through Saturday, June 21. Everything in the store will be sold for half price, including the audio-visual items such as DVDs, CDs, books on discs, etc. The Browsers Corner Book Store is located at 711 E. Washington Street and the hours are 9:30 am to 6:00 pm every day.

Fizz! Boom! Read! And Spark a Reaction this summer at the Carson City Library and discover the amazing world of science. The 2014 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings, story hours, a reading club, and more.

There is a Read-to-Me portion of the program that families are invited to join as well. Registration for the Summer Reading Program has begun and continues this Saturday, June 14th, at the annual Kiwanis Breakfast for Books. The pancake breakfast will take place on the library lawn from 8:00 am to 10:00 am.

The all new Browsers Corner Book Store run by the Friends of the Carson City Library opened last week to hundreds of eager buyers, and the books flew off the shelves.

Customers were surprised with five rooms of books for adults, a bright and colorful area for children’s books and audio visual items, all for sale at bargain prices. New merchandise is processed and put on the shelves daily.

The new store is located across the street from the library at 711 E. Washington St. All proceeds generated by the book store benefit the Carson City Library.

Carson City Library will welcome Dr. Leslie-Pelecky, author of The Physics of NASCAR as special guest on Tuesday, April 15th, at 6:00 p.m.

This National Library Week highlight will take place in the Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 East William Street, at the Carson City Community Center. National Library Week highlights the value of libraries, librarians and library workers in our community and brings featured programs to your library.

The Friends of the Carson City Library are excited to announce the Grand Opening of a beautiful, new Browsers Corner Bookstore on Saturday, April 12th at 9:30 am. The new location is just across the street from the Library at 711 East Washington Street. There will be a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. with the Chamber of Commerce. Refreshments will be served and there will be a free raffle.

The sale hours are Friday, Feb. 14th from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday, Feb. 15th from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be a preview sale for Members of the Friends of the Library on Thursday, Feb. 13th from 2 pm to 5 pm. If you are not a member of the Friends you can join at the door. Creativity goes wild this week as the Friends of the Carson City Library hosts its annual Home for the Holidays Handmade Gifts and Creations Sale from Thursday through Saturday at the Carson City Library auditorium.

There'll be plenty of unique creations, handmade accessories, stocking stuffers and ideal gifts for the holiday season, plus raffle prizes too.

An action-packed week filled with music, arts, books, Nevada political history and more will be featured as Carson City Library celebrates National Library week.

Special events kick off Monday, 6 p.m., at the library auditorium with “The Lure of Music, a Human Universal” presented by internationally-recognized music scholar Fredric Lieberman, Ph.D., a distinguished professor of music at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Comedian Paula Poundstone performs Friday night in Carson City in a show benefiting the Friends of the Carson City Library. We recently spoke to Poundstone about her long career as a comic and the importance of libraries.

The Friends of the Carson City Library will welcome comedienne Paula Poundstone in concert at the Bob Boldrick Theater in Carson City on Friday, March 29.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with the performance at 7:30 p.m. at the Theater, located in the Carson City Community Center. Reserved seats are $45 and general admission $35. The Friends of the Carson City Library Book Sale will be held at their new facility at 2311 North Carson Street (just behind Denny's Restaurant). The sale will be Friday, March 15th and Saturday, March 16th from 10 am to 4 pm. Come early to browse through thousands of books for adults and children as well as a large assortment of videos and other audio-visual selections. As always we feature great books at bargai prices.

Friends of the Library book lovers will now have a larger place to buy books and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce plans to launch the opening with a ribbon cutting.

The Friends of the Carson City Library has a new location for book sales. It is at 2311 North Carson Street, just behind Denny's Restaurant. There is lots of parking off of Hot Springs both in front of the building and behind it. Having a "permanent" space for our sales means that we will be having a sale very month.
The hours for our first sale in February are:

— Thursday, Feb. 14th - 3 pm to 6 pm - preview for members only
— Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 & 16 - 10 am to 4 pm for everybody
