Hello Carson City and welcome to the first day of the work week. Today is Monday, April 15, 2019. Sure it's tax day and all and sure the weather outside is expected to be windy with a chance of showers. But these shouldn't shake your enthusiasm for another awesome day in our great capital city. Onward and upward we go.

When selecting a book to highlight this year’s theme for National Library Week, “Libraries = Strong Communities,” it may not seem fitting to pick one about the collapse of modern society. But Amy Lauder, collection development manager for the Carson City Library, argues “Station Eleven” is the optimal choice.

Good morning Carson City. Today is Sunday, April 14 and we are officially one week away from Easter. Today is going to be a bit breezy and cloudy, but the high will be 63 degrees with a low of 43, so at least we aren't freezing. Check below to see what events await you today in our capital city.

Here we are, entering the end of the work week. We welcome Friday, April 12, 2019 with a forecast calling for mostly sunny skies with a daytime high in the low to mid 50s. Not bad. The weekend is shaping up nicely with sunshine and a warming trend. There's plenty on tap today and tonight around town. Enjoy.

There's two upcoming events for those who support Browsers Corner Book Store, which is run through Friends of the Carson City Library.

Headed into Thursday, April 11, 2019 we welcome Carson City to another day where weather forecasters say there's a chance of rain and maybe even a few snow showers mixed in. Beyond the weather we're looking at a blockbuster day and night filled will activities throughout town. From library presentations, a TV show casting call at the Carson Nugget, an afternoon hike, to a train history presentation, a book signing at the Brewery Arts Center, a CHS theater performance and the Carson City movie screening premier of "The Mustang" filmed at the historic Nevada State Prison, there's something for everyone. Enjoy!

In other words, it looks and feels a lot like spring. Meanwhile, we've got a full plate of activities around town. Read on for more.

Good morning Carson City! Today is Saturday, April 6. While it's going to be a bit cloudy today, we'll have a high of 56 degrees. Sunday and Monday are almost hitting 70, though, with highs at 67 and 68!

On the docket for today is a Celtic Music concert, a Ducks Unlimited Banquet, the April Carson City Wine Walk, farming workshops, kitten parties, and more.

With a little help from the wind and a birds-eye view, we're flying into Friday, April 5, 2019 with plenty to do and see as we get ready for the weekend. National Weather Service forecasters say it will be a breezy day with some rain. But don't let that dampen your day as there's art showings, live music and hilarious comedy venues at the Brewery Arts Center and Carson Nugget.

As matters at the legislature continue, we are winding up for another weekend full of activities, including the downtown wine walk and a bevy of shows at the Brewery Arts Center. We're looking at a steady flow of showers today, according to the National Weather Service with snow in the upper elevations of the Sierra. There is a Winter Weather Advisory until midnight for the west slope of the Sierra. Today in town we have events that range from a Carson High School team fundraiser to movies to politics to fitness. Well the weekend sure went fast as we say goodbye to March. Now we're heading into Monday, April 1, 2019 where pranks, larks and tom foolery are orders of the day. No fooling when it comes to the weather though. We may see a slight chance of showers in the afternoon and evening with more of a chance of rain on Tuesday. Stay tuned.

The Carson City Library invites everyone in Carson City to participate in a community read of "Station Eleven" by Emily St. John Mandel for the library’s annual Capital City Reads program during the month of April.

Capital City Reads is Carson City Library’s annual city-wide book club sponsored by the Friends of the Carson City Library that brings people together through reading and discussion.

Those who attend the sixth annual International Film Weekend in Carson City will get a glimpse into some of Nevada’s hidden treasures, as well as a look at cultures around the world.

“We hope people will see how we are all the same, underneath,” said chairwoman Linda Bellegray. “Our humanity is universal.”

Hello Carson City, today is Monday, Oct. 22, 2018. As another weekend ends, a short work week begins with Friday officially Nevada Day, a state holiday and a weekend of festivities ahead including Saturday's famed Nevada Day parade.

When Patti Ferguson started looking for volunteer opportunities eight years ago, she naturally gravitated toward something literary. “I love to read, and I love books,” she said.

Tuesdays are happening in Carson City. Tonight, the Mile High Jazz Band takes to the stage at Living the Good Life for their monthly performance. Take advantage of the new program at the Nevada State Library and Archives: once a month, you’re welcome to bring a lunch and listen to a presentation. Celebrate the newest exhibit in the OXS Gallery inside the Nevada Arts Council.

It’s a planes, trains, and automobiles kind of weekend. Add in bands, bikes and bar-be-ques and we’ve got most of this weekend’s list covered. The Carson City Airport is celebrating 90 years at this year’s open house and fly-in. One of the summer’s best events with balloon rides, cool old planes, and much more: you won’t want to miss it. Beat the heat at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; all admission fees have been waived today thanks to Carson City Toyota. Summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center begin tonight with the Original Wailers.

There will be some tales told today. The Dayton Historical Society had to postpone the last lecture in their May series until tonight, so you still have a chance to hear Karen Howe’s presentation on the Dayton Cemetery and who you’ll find there. Local author Jennifer Quashnick visits the Browsers Corner Book Store for a meet-and-greet, and to discuss the latest addition to her Mountain Girl book series. Get the little ones in their jammies and head to the Carson Library for Pajama Storytime.

I’m ready for spring. My allergies don’t seem to be as enthusiastic, but I love watching our valley awaken from its gray winter slumber. Muscle Powered’s guided hikes are a great way to explore our town and learn about the many trails hidden in the hills. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club gets an extra-special visitor at tonight’s film viewing; STRAZZ, the Carson City Symphony’s Youth String Orchestra will be performing before ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ lights up the screen. Sandie LaNae and Arlene La Ferry are the featured authors at Browsers Corner Book Store this evening.

Mary Rose “Mosey” Vargas Covington passed away on April 2, 2018. Born in Auburn, California in November of 1942, Mosey grew up on a Sierra foothills ranch in Placer County and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960. She came to the eastern Sierra Nevada in 1965 where she taught two generations of children and raised her own family.

You’re going to have some choices to make today. Just how much fun are you looking for, and what kind? Live music takes over at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, Bella Vita Bistro, Living the Good Life, and the Brewery Arts Center. Belly laughs can be found at Carson Comedy inside the Carson Nugget on Fridays and Saturdays. A Father-daughter dance at the High School in Dayton is sure to thrill some little princesses.

Break a leg, Carson High Drama. Tonight, is opening night for their spring musical, The Secret Garden. There’s something special going on at Carson High for our community members over 50: the annual Senior/senior Friendship Prom is free to attend and a great reason to dress to the nines. Sportsman’s Warehouse celebrates ‘Ladies Night’ with raffles, games, and giveaways. The Friends of the Carson City Library have invited local author Ron Bell to the Browsers Corner Book Store for a special meet and greet and book signing.
