Happy Wednesday, Carson City. Enjoy America’s pastime tonight at the Aces Stadium and help raise money for the Carson City Library; just pick up your ticket voucher at Browser’s Corner Book Store. Casino Fandango is airing the 1968 classic, Planet of the Apes, today at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Kick off a weekend full of classic cars with Cruise Night at the Carson Mall with food trucks, kids activities, and more. Westside Pour House is the new home of the weekly ‘Geeks Who Drink’ Pub Quiz, so gather your smartest friends for a fun night of trivia, libations, and good food.

On July 27 at 7:05 PM the Reno Aces will play the Sacramento River Cats on the Greater Nevada Field in Reno. As a way to raise money for the Carson City Library, the Friends of the Carson City Library are currently selling ticket vouchers at $16 for Left Field Reserve.

Friends of the Carson City Library provide lunch for all library staff

The Friends of the Carson City Library expressed their sincerest gratitude to all Library staff members on Staff Development Day.

Lunch was provided on June 15 courtesy of Nevada Nosh Food Truck. Thank-you cards and golden certificates were handed out to each employee by FOCCL President, Phyllis Patton, and a thank-you speech was delivered by Vice President, Joseph Spencer.

Bring your friends or make some new ones at our fun gaming night. We are hosting a weekly Magic: The Gathering tournament and a oneshot tabletop gaming event. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase during the event.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Carson City Library and will take place after the Carson City Library closes at 5 pm. The library's Digitorium will open at 5:15 pm for participants to set up for the event.

Friends of the Carson City Library to celebrate Browsers Bookstore anniversary Wednesday

When Julie Giese moved back to her hometown seven years ago after 35 years away, she realized much had changed. “There were so many new faces,” she said.

And while the Carson City Library was no longer on main street where she visited as a girl, she saw it still played a pivotal role in the community.

Washington Street to close this week, Carson City Library to remain open

Washington Street between Carson and Roop streets will be completely closed in front of the Carson City Library, Monday through Friday, April 11-15. The library will be open with regular hours all week and parking available at the Carson City Community Center.

Browsers Corner Bookstore across from the library will be closed this week for spring cleaning. The store, which is the fundraising arm of the Friends of the Carson City Library, will reopen Monday, April 18 at 9:30 a.m. It will kick off a weeklong celebration in honor of the store's anniversary.

Wildlife advocate pens children’s book, reading Saturday in Carson City

Jake Willers was working on a video project to educate people about interacting with urban bears at the same time he was raising his little boy, Finn.

“I was reading him a bunch of kids’ books,” Willers recalls. “And I found I was able to recite five or six of them just by heart because I had read them so many times.”

The annual Turkey Trot is a fun 5 or 8K run around the west side of town Thanksgiving morning. Costumes, silliness, and good times had for all. Sign up this afternoon at St. Teresa school. Living the Good Life is a good go-to for Tuesday night fun with bar games and trivia. Pizza lovers should head to Brugo’s for their weekly beer specials and a special tasting with High Sierra Brewery.

It’s Monday, but this week should fly by. Thanksgiving will be here before you know it, so you probably want to start thawing your bird. There are still many organizations collecting food for families, so consider dropping off a frozen turkey at Salvation Army, or something non-perishable in one of the many bins around town. If helping kids is a passion, you’ll want to attend the informational meeting at the office of the Court Appointed Special Advocates this evening. CASA is always looking for people who’d like to make a difference to a child.

The countdown to Turkey Day has begun, and living in Carson City gives us plenty to be thankful for: Beautiful views, our own deer herd, great shops, yummy restaurants, talented actors, artists, and craftsmen, and wonderful people. Get in the spirit of giving with a new tattoo from Hooligan’s Ink to benefit the Austin House. For something less permanent, drop off a turkey at one of the contenders in the Salvation Army’s Battle of the Bars. Giving your time is valuable, too. The Muscle Powered Trash Mob meets once a month to help keep Carson’s trails clean and litter-free.

Happy Friday, Carson City. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly suggest tracking down some tickets for Mary Poppins. The cast and crew of the Western Nevada Musical Theater Co. knock it out of the park with this production. Carson High School’s annual Craft Fair begins tonight; a plethora of crafters, artisans, and vendors will be there to help with your holiday gift list. It’s West Coast Swing night at Yaple’s Ballroom, so put on your dance shoes and kick the weekend off right.

The Polar Express takes its first trip of the season today, and I hope you got your tickets. The annual event always sells out. Check here for ticket information; you may get lucky. Take the kids to the Carson City Library for weekly story time and check out CCAI’s Industrial Art Exhibit while you’re there. Today is the last day it will be on display. Hear stories of Old Virginia City at the Gold Hill Hotel. Or take a trip to the Nevada State Museum: the bombing of a Basque village during the Spanish Civil War and the affect it had on the United States is the topic of this month’s Francis Humphry lecture.

For those of you with swing in your step, head to El Charro Avita for intermediate dance lessons and the High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s weekly ‘night out.’

Broadway comedy 'Defending the Caveman' to benefit Carson City Library

The one-man Broadway comedy “Defending the Caveman” is coming to the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center at 8 p.m. Saturday.

“It is all about the sexes and how they see and hear the same topics of conversation in very different ways,” said Phyllis Patton, president of the Friends of the Carson City Library. “We can all relate to at least one of these scenarios. It’s guaranteed laughter and elbow pokes to the ribs throughout the evening.”

Browsers Corner Book Store helps hungry neighbors with Christmas in July

The Friends of the Carson City Library are helping fight hunger in the Carson City community with their “Christmas in July” Food Drive to benefit the Ron Wood Family Resource Center. The food drive began Monday, July 13 and ends today, Saturday, July 25.

Community members can bring a donation of canned or packaged food to the Browsers Book Store at 711 East Washington Street. Browsers is accepting food until 6 p.m. With every donation, you can receive a free Christmas book of your choice and a coupon for $1 off of a purchase in the book store.
