That makes it profitable to move jobs and investments to other countries that have lower tax rates. The proposal the House of Representatives recently sent to the Senate proposes a new flat rate for “C” corporations of 20 percent.

Those interested need to enroll in two advanced manufacturing training classes to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for employment by Northern Nevada manufacturers such as Panasonic and Tesla Motors.

For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. City manager outlines current emergency preparedness plan

From wildfires to flooding and all-too-common high wind events, Carson City Manager Nick Marano says local government is ready to respond at a moment's notice.
"The city has an emergency operations plan," Marano said. "We've gone through several rounds of modifications to it."
There is an emergency operations center, he said, that enhances communication between public safety and public works departments during local emergencies.
Free Shred Day at Greater Nevada Credit Union This Saturday

John Bullis Column: Higher amount to expense on Purchase of personal property
Submitted by editor on Tue, 04/26/2016 - 10:40amIRS announced recently that it is OK for taxpayers to claim as a direct expense of up to $2,500 cost of an item of tangible personal property (i.e. cell phones, computers, equipment of all kinds).
The increase to $2,500 per item from the previous limit of $500 came mainly because many folks pointed out that $500 is less than most cell phones and computers cost. The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) was one of many advocates to ask for the increased cost.

At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

This is DeBug’s third year putting on an event to help the sheriff’s office with its Holiday with a Hero event, which pairs up Carson City sheriff's deputies, firefighters and public officials with dozens of pre-selected local students, many of who don't have permanent homes and live in poverty.

South Lake Tahoe marijuana collective raided Monday
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/01/2015 - 9:22pmA large team made up of members from multiple agencies served a search warrant on South Lake Tahoe's sole marijuana collective and the home of its owner, Cody Bass, early Monday morning.
Agents from the Franchise Tax Board, Board of Equalization, Department of Insurance, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and El Dorado County Sheriff's Department were on scene at the Tahoe Wellness Cooperative, according to Tami Grimes, information officer with the FTB in Sacramento.
Carson City Library to celebrate week leading up to added days
Submitted by editor on Fri, 05/29/2015 - 6:11pmWhen Sam Wilson, 15, heard the Carson City Library was extending its hours to include Sundays beginning in June, he was overjoyed. “That’s exciting news,” he said. “The more they’re open, the more opportunity there is for me to go and learn new technology.”
Wilson, who just completed his freshman year at Carson High School, rides his bike nearly every day to the Carson City Library where he spends his afternoons in the Digitorium doing his homework and surfing the Internet.

The question is what to save and what to destroy (not throw away if it has your personal information on it). First, we urge all income tax returns be saved. If you filed a form 709, U.S. Gift Tax Return, that should be saved with your estate planning documents.
Carson City Library to expand to seven days a week

“We are truly the only public facility that allows free access to the Internet and computers on Sunday,” said Library Director Sena Loyd. “It helps out families. It helps out those who have several jobs. Job seekers can come in on Sundays. It helps out anyone who may need more flexible hours to come into the library.”
