Carson City sheriff's log: Man jailed on felony theft charges

A 37-year-old Fresno man was arrested Monday on multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing merchandise from Home Depot among other places, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Charles Owen Herzog was booked on two counts felony grand larceny and two counts possession of stolen property after computers and other items were discovered in a vehicle that was stopped by deputies.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the store in the 3100 block of Market Street at 8:10 p.m. and learned that a man was seen driving off with store property in a Ford Bronco. A deputy located the vehicle that matched the description in the 2900 block of Carson Street.

The items were in the truck and positively identified by a store employee. The man was taken into custody. During an inventory of the vehicle officers located two lap top computers which both had been reported stolen. Herzog was read his Miranda warning and admitted to the computer theft, the arrest report states. Deputies also found around 11 grams of marijuana, two marijuana pipes and a pair of jeans the suspect was wearing that had been stolen from Kohls. Bail: $118,874.

In other arrests:
— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 6:45 p.m. in the area of Condor Circle on misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the location twice earlier in the day regarding domestic disputes. Deputies were called a third time to the home and were advised the man was hostile, intoxicated and had access to weapons, according to the arrest report.

Officers arrived and found the suspect and a woman standing outside the residence as well as a 16-year-old and a friend. Deputies made contact with the man who was clearly intoxicated. During the investigation officers were told the man threw his girlfriend into a window, which was broken. Deputies learned there was a struggle between the man and woman because the woman feared for the safety of her small children inside the home.

Officers learned the man’s behavior had been escalating all day. The man denied he touched the woman, and claimed she attacked him, tripped and that’s how the window was broken. It was determined the man was the primary aggressor and he was arrested. Bail: $3,137.

— Deputies who were called to a domestic dispute Tuesday morning involving a man and woman at a gas station wound up searching for the pair when they each fled in different directions, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A 47-year-old Fairfield, Calif., woman was arrested Tuesday, 10:10 a.m. in the area of East College Parkway and Lompa Lane on suspicion of disorderly conduct and resisting a police officer. A 35-year-old transient man was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing after being found inside a casino in the 3600 block of Goni Road.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a gas station in the area of College Parkway and Research Way regarding a domestic dispute between a man and woman. A report made to dispatch was a man was chasing a woman with a gun.

A deputy arrived and found a woman hiding in the bushes. When he attempted to address the woman, she took off running. The officer caught up to the woman and asked her to stop and sit down. The woman then took off running again, the arrest report states. The officer caught up to the woman again and detained her so he could learn what was going on with she and her boyfriend, the arrest report states. The woman would not cooperate and resisted the officer. She was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and resisting with violence, both misdemeanors.

Deputies learned the male suspect was seen in the 3600 block of Goni Road. He was found inside the casino by Department of Alternative Sentencing officers and began to resist arrest, the report states. The man gave officers a fake name and refused to explain his version of what happened. A computer check of the man’s tattoo patterns led to the identity of the man. He advised he and the woman were in a dispute but he refused to provide details and denied chasing her with a gun, the arrest report states. He was booked on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing. Bail: $412. Bail for the woman, $1,379.

— A 42-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 8:32 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the 200 block of South Ormsby in reference to a domestic dispute between a man and woman.

On scene the deputy noticed the man sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in which the vehicle was on and the transmission was in park. The officer made contact with the man who was grinding his teeth and his body twitching uncontrollably.

The man showed signs of someone under the influence of methamphetamine. The man was asked if he had used any type of controlled substance. The man stated he had taken a “couple hits of meth.” He was asked if he would be willing to participate in field sobriety tests. The man declined. The deputy spoke with three witnesses who said they observed the man drive up to the location and was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

He was taken to jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. At jail he refused to take a voluntary consent for evidentiary blood and a judge authorized a search warrant to obtain blood samples. Inside the vehicle deputies found a glass pipe commonly used to ingest methamphetamine. Bail: $2,274.
