Silver and snow take shape in downtown Carson City
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in downtown Carson City.
Especially at the State Capitol, where grounds crews are working hard to complete the holiday display in preparation for Friday's annual Silver and Snowflake Festival, a Carson City tradition for 28 years.
Lights have been strung up and around the Capitol's Christmas tree, which is scheduled to light up Friday, Dec. 2 at about 5:50 p.m.
Festival activities around the Capitol begin at 4:30 p.m. with horse-drawn carriage rides, caroling, musical performances and a visit from Santa Claus leading up to the tree lighting ceremony.
The city tree lighting, featuring the Carson High Chamber Choir, is scheduled for 6 p.m. on the grounds of the First Presbyterian Church, located at 306 W. Musser Street.
That's also the site of the annual Carson City Empty Bowls Project fundraiser, the culmination of a year-long effort to fight hunger in the community.
Empty Bowls begins its benefit at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 at the First Presbyterian Church.
Live music will be played on the Bob McFadden Plaza starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, ringing in the holiday for the former Third Street section that debuted on July 31 this year.
