Kimi Cole, former chair of Douglas County Democratic Party and current Chair of the Rural Nevada Democratic Caucus, will speak via Zoom at Monday's Democratic luncheon. She became chair of Douglas Democrats in March 2013 and served four terms in that position. Cole is the first Democratic candidate to formally announce a bid for the lieutenant governorship, and if successful she will be the first transgender candidate elected to statewide office in the whole of the United States.

Despite concerns of civil unrest to coincide with the inauguration of a new president Wednesday morning, downtown Carson City was quiet as Joe Biden was sworn into office.

Tensions were high Saturday in downtown Carson City in front of the Nevada Legislature building as a “Stop the Steal” rally attracted both a group of people affiliated with the Proud Boys, as well as an armed militia.

Graduates of the Carson City Chamber Leadership classes volunteered their time Saturday to assist the state grounds crew in installing Christmas lights and decorations in front of the capitol.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

Even the Grinch is distressed as the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights becomes another casualty joining all the Carson City signature events cancelled since March 2020 due to the pandemic.

If this hater of everything Christmas is distressed, you can just imagine how sad all those who love this Carson City tradition will be.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is pleased to announce the winning entries in the Nevada Day Chalk Art Contest held on Oct. 31. The contest was open to all Carson City residents, households and businesses. Contestants created chalk art masterpieces on their own driveways or sidewalks based on the Nevada Day theme of “My Favorite Moment in Nevada.”

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The November Gobble Wine Walk kicks off in downtown Carson City followed by a new “Paths and Pedals” bike tour. CARSON CITY — A member of Governor Steve Sisolak’s staff based in the Capitol Office in Carson City has received a positive result for COVID-19 through a rapid test after developing symptoms over the weekend. The staff member was last in the office on Thursday, October 29, 2020, and was not symptomatic at that time.

Celebrating Nevada Day in safety and style, the successful statewide socially distanced pop-up performances concluded in Reno and Carson City with multiple stops. The activation, designed to inspire the community to download and adopt the COVID Trace contact tracing app, resulted in five times the usual daily downloads indicating the community is motivated to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

As people gather for the Nevada Day festivities, a notable local business in Carson City will be celebrating a major milestone.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will get underway at 1 p.m. today, Thursday, for Carson City Mayor and native Nevadan Robert “Bob” Crowell.

The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, by executive order, Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and State public buildings and grounds from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, October 29, 2020 as a mark of solemn respect and in remembrance of Carson City Mayor and native Nevadan Robert “Bob” Crowell, whose memorial is being held Thursday.

With Nevada Day festivities rolling this week without the coveted official parade along Carson Street, some have noted on social media their intention to rally their own independent parades.

While not illegal or encouraged, the Carson City Sheriff's Office is staffed up to make sure that whoever chooses to do anything non-sanctioned, including independent parading on Carson Street, that whatever they choose to do is done without breaking the law.

Chase will open its first Carson City branch bank Tuesday on South Carson Street and Eagle Station as part of its northern Nevada expansion, making it the 10th location in the region.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. A member of Governor Steve Sisolak’s staff based in the Capitol Office in Carson City has received a positive diagnostic test for COVID-19 after developing symptoms over this past weekend.
