NHP identifies Wellington woman involved in fatal crash with motorhome on Kingsbury Grade
The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Lyon County woman who died from injuries in a head-on crash involving a motorhome that happened Friday afternoon east of Lake Tahoe on Kingsbury Grade in Douglas County.
Carrie Hilderbrand, 47, of Wellington, died from injuries resulting from the crash, said NHP Trooper Duncan Dauber. Four others were injured in the crash, which happened at around 1:20 p.m. on State Route 207.
According to the preliminary crash investigation, NHP troopers were dispatched to the crash scene, approximately 1.5 miles from Foothill Road. The investigation indicates that a gold Nissan Pathfinder driven by Hilderbrand who was the sole occupant, was traveling eastbound on Nevada State Route 207 when she allowed the Nissan to drift over the double yellow painted median lane lines, said Dauber.
A 2016 Leprechaun motorhome driven by Jason Collin, 43, of South Lake Tahoe was traveling westbound on Kingsbury Grade approaching the Nissan. With its front, the Nissan struck the left front of the motorhome. The Nissan spun counterclockwise and came to rest alongside the driver’s side of the coach, said Dauber.
In the motorhome were six passengers many of them sustaining minor to moderate injury in the crash. Both drivers were transported via Care Flight to a Reno Hospital and three of the passengers of the motorhome were transported via ground to local area hospitals. Hilderbrand succumbed to her injuries sustained during the crash and was pronounced deceased.
At this time, impairment is unknown and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
