Lake Tahoe is home to Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Festival July 24-25 at Tallac Site
One of Lake Tahoe’s most notable cultural events will take place at the Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival the weekend of July 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Festival is a rare cultural event for families taking place on the grounds of the Valhalla Grand Hall with a basket weaving competition, native film festival, traditional dance, native artists, performers and much more. It is free of charge and located directly on the shores of Lake Tahoe at the historic Tallac Site, home of the Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival.
“The Wa She Shu It Deh Tribe’s history dates back an estimated 9,000 years in the Lake Tahoe Basin,” said Lori Cramer, executive director of the non-profit Tahoe Tallac Association. “We’re helping to celebrate their culturally rich history by recognizing both California and Nevada Washoe Tribes of Nevada with an annual festival that’s free to all.”
Located on the shores of Lake Tahoe at the historic Tallac Site, the Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival is in its 31st anniversary summer-long festival season. The Tahoe Tallac historic 74-acre setting is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was a favorite getaway in the late 1800’s for Northern California’s elite members of society. The Boathouse Theatre is a structure dating back to the turn-of-the century, distinguishing it as one of Tahoe’s earliest preserved buildings.
The Tallac Historic Site and Valhalla Estate Cultural Arts Store offers collector and specialty gifts, hand crafted. The store is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
The Valhalla parking lot is available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily with a two-hour limit for visitors to experience the cultural art store, view the Valhalla Grand Hall and the Boathouse Theater plus buy tickets for upcoming events. There’s limited parking for all scheduled events and carpooling is encouraged.

Guests to the site will find visual arts exhibits; an artists-in-residence, children’s art workshops, youth theatre camps and a Cultural Arts Store.
— Tahoe Tallac Association was formed in 1979 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the goal of assisting the Forest Service in restoring the three estates on the Tallac Historic Site, developing the site as a historic center, and sponsoring/producing the Valhalla Arts & Music Festival held annually on the Heller Estate of the Tallac Historic Site.
