It's a story that goes back nearly a century, when the silver screen drew as many starry-eyed dreamers to the film capital of the world as it did audiences to movie houses.

Entries are open now for the second annual Lake Tahoe WordWave One-Act Play Competition. “WordWave, A Festival of Story at Lake Tahoe,” will return Oct. 21-23 to the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Winners of the play competition receive a $500 cash prize and the chance to see their work directed and produced as a staged reading on the historic Boathouse Theatre stage.

Boot stomping to bluegrass in a 1920’s boat house turned theater with Lake Tahoe in the background, kicking back at free concerts on a historic lakeshore estate’s grand lawn, and experiencing the Washoe tribe’s ceremonial dances and drumming are some of the many iconic experiences at Lake Tahoe’s Valhalla Arts, Music & Theatre Festival this July.

Tahoe Dance Band performs at the Grand Hall on Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The 17-piece band plays big band and swing with fox trots, waltzes, tangos, and polkas. Tickets are $15/$12/$5.

LAKE TAHOE — Unbearable loneliness, crises of confidence, bereavement, loss of hope and struggles with faith are just some of the universal topics being talked about on the stage of the historic Boathouse Theatre at Tahoe’s annual Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival. "Talking With" is a unique collection of 10 monologues by 10 marvelous characters who are sure to make the audience laugh and think.

LAKE TAHOE — Get ready for jazz, Celtic, mystery, comedy, bluegrass, percussion and a whole lot more at the Lake Tahoe Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival. The Festival takes place at the historic Tahoe Tallac site, a 74-acre setting currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a 1800’s favorite getaway for Northern California’s elite members of society.  But you don’t have to be an elite member of society to enjoy the variety of affordable and sometimes even free events at the Valhalla Festival.

One of Lake Tahoe’s most notable cultural events will take place at the Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival the weekend of July 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Festival is a rare cultural event for families taking place on the grounds of the Valhalla Grand Hall with a basket weaving competition, native film festival, traditional dance, native artists, performers and much more.
