Drive to assist Carson City area families with free, gently used school clothes
The Relief Society local women’s organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosts its ninth annual clothing drive to assist families in the Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville, and Dayton, Nevada communities to obtain clothes for school.
The event is open to the public on Saturday, July 29, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City.
David Haws, President of the church’s local organization, invites individuals and families of Carson City and surrounding communities to come in and pick up needed clothing. “Since 2008 the Church has sponsored this annual event to assist families of school-aged children. Our goal is to reduce the stress parents’ face in getting their children ready for the coming school year,” said Haws.
Event organizers ask for community members’ help by contributing new or clean gently used clothing donations for pre-school thru high school-aged children. “We are focusing on back to school clothes, but will accept all clothing!” said Linda Forbes, President of the Church’s local women’s organization. Donation drop off is on Friday, July 28, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 411 N. Saliman Road, Carson City, Nevada.
Forbes said the annual event provides gently used clothing free of charge. The event focuses on school-aged children K thru 12. “We invite families to pick up free clothing for all age groups to prepare for school,” said Forbes.
Providing service to others is central to the Mormon belief of following the example of Jesus Christ. This is a non-denominational event open to the public.
