Carson City sheriff’s log: Man jailed on felony meth trafficking and sales charges

A 39-year-old man was jailed Tuesday on multiple drug charges including trafficking and sales after 25.3 grams of methamphetamine and 44 grams of marijuana were found in his vehicle, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Christoper Lawrence Bliven of Reno was arrested in the 4300 block of Apollo Drive. He was charged with drug sales, drug trafficking 14-28 ounces, and drug possession, all felonies, and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail has been set at $64,785.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the 4300 block of Apollo Drive in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Dispatch advised the reporting witness stated there was an unknown vehicle parked in their driveway. Officers arrived and observed a white jeep parked at the residence.

The deputy exited his patrol vehicle and went to the driver’s side of the vehicle where he observed Bliven with his head on the steering wheel and appeared to be passed out. His right hand was a clear glass pipe commonly used for smoking meth. The officer knocked on the driver’s door and attempted to make contact with the man. He tossed his head up, looked at the officer and began yelling profanities. He appeared confused and looked as if he did not understand what was going on.

The deputy asked the man to roll down his window. Bliven again looked confused and didn’t seem to understand what was being asked of him. The officer pointed to the window switch on the driver’s side armrest and asked the man to push not on the window switched. The man complied. While he was rolling down the window the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The officer asked the man what was going on and if he knew where he was. The man said he did not and told the officer he had been smoking. The officer asked the man if he was smoking methamphetamine and marijuana. Bliven replied he was, the arrest report states.

The officer asked Bliven if there were any other drugs in the vehicle. The man replied “no, I smoked it all.” The officer asked the man what he used to smoke the marijuana. The man replied he had a pipe in his backpack located on the front passenger side seat. He reached into his backpack and showed the officer the pipe he used to smoke the marijuana.

The officer asked the man to exit his vehicle. The man complied and was taken into custody for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle and was read his rights. The officer asked if he wanted to talk about the incident. Bliven said he was not sure what was going on and advised he did not wish to speak.

The officer explained the vehicle was going to be towed and that an inventory of the vehicle was going to be made. During the inventory officers found 25.3 grams of methamphetamine and 44 grams of marijuana, two scales, numerous small plastic baggies an a marijuana pipe.

In other arrests: An 18-year-old Carson City man, Noah Cartwright Null, was taken into custody Tuesday, 9:33 p.m. in the 2400 block of Havenwood Court on a felony charge, assault with a deadly weapon, a kitchen knife, after threatening an employee of a group home.

According to the arrest report, an officer went to the home and met with the employee. The officer was familiar with the suspect from prior contacts and knew him to have mental health issues, developmental disabilities and violent outbursts.

When the officer arrived the suspect was in handcuffs and talking about how he threatened a worker with several knives by holding them up toward the worker and demanding medication, the arrest report states.

Officers spoke with the worker who stated the suspect wanted to take the medication that he refused earlier. He stated that he was unable to fulfill the request due to having to contact the doctor because of the time difference from when the suspect refused. The worker stated the suspect grabbed 2 butter knives and yelled at him to move so he could break into the medicine cabinet that is locked.

The worker stated the suspect threatened to stab him if he didn’t move but dropped the knives and then laughed. The worker stated that the suspect went back to the kitchen and grabbed a large butcher knife and confronted him again near the medicine cabinet. The worker stated that both men fought and the worker was able to take the knife away from the suspect. The worker stated that the suspect laughed and said that he has plenty of knives around the house and would get him, the arrest report states.

The worker show the officer the knives, a standard butter knife and one that was slightly larger than a steak knife with a bigger blade. Null was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail: $20,000.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man, Daniel Jacobson, was arrested Tuesday, 7:45 p.m. in the 600 block of Armory Lane on a felony charge of parole violation, and misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and obstructing and resisting.

According to the arrest report, officers were called to a residence regarding a man who was overdosing. Officers were informed the man would run from them because he is on parole. An officer found the man several blocks away. Jacobson ducked under a truck in a driveway and crawled under a partially open garage door.

The man then got up and looked as if he was going to run. He appeared confused and under the influence of drugs. The officer drew his taser and repeatedly ordered the man to the ground. Jacobson ignored the commands, placing his hands in his pockets and then looking for a way to run and then attempted to run. The officer deployed a taser which had little effect, the arrest report states.

The man leaned up against the garage door but ignored commands to go to the ground. A second taser was deployed and the man went the ground. He complied with the officer and fire department personnel arrived. Paramedics advised he was under the influence of drugs and was overdosing. They advised he needed to be taken to the hospital.

Deputies learned that the man was brought to the home by friends because he was overdosing on heroin. Fearing for his safety they called 911. When Jacobson heard sirens he attempted to run. A friend attempted to restrain the man, who broke away, injuring the friend’s neck.

The officer who deployed the taser went to the hospital and stood by while the man was being treated. Jacobson was cooperative with the officer and explained he had a drug and alcohol problem and that he had been out on parole for three weeks and had been drinking alcohol every day since he was released.

The suspect was remorseful of the situation, especially when he saw his girlfriend and their three-year-old daughter, the arrest report states. The man discussed with the officer his desire to get sober and be a father to his child, the arrest report states. He was taken to jail and booked on the following charges: Parole violation, a felony, domestic battery and obstructing and resisting an officer. He is being held without bail pending a hearing for the parole violation. Bail for the other charges, $3,549.

According to the arrest report, the woman admitted to taking items valued at $98.52 without paying for them. During an inventory of the vehicle officers found two open and cold bottles of beer in the center console and several baggies of a white crystal substance in a backpack. Bail: $3,544.

— A 43-year-old man was arrested Tuesday, 3:51 p.m. in the area of 20 College Parkway on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the location after dispatch received a 911 call from a woman who stated she was hiding in an apartment after being hit by her ex-boyfriend and current caregiver. She stated the man had a knife and was threatening to kill himself.

An officer arrived and knocked several times on the door. The woman answered the door where the deputy observed blood on the left side of her lip. She told the deputy she was unable to exit the apartment because she is disabled. She motioned that the man was in the bedroom to the rear of the apartment. At that time the man came out and he was ordered downstairs where he was detained because of allegations that he had a knife.

The man told officer he and the woman were previously in a relationship but are not any longer. He said he cares for the woman because of a neurological injury. He said he was sleeping when the victim asked him to help her take a bath. The man said the two began to argue because he said she is able to take a bath on her own. He stated he never hit the woman and the next thing he knew, an officer was knocking on the door.

The deputy then spoke with the woman who said she has a medical condition that caused her to lose feeling on the right side of her body and she has to walk with a walker. She said she asked the man for help to take a bath and that he became upset. The two argued and he slapped her across the right side of her face. She said he then punched her, causing her lip to bleed and loosening a tooth. She said the man then grabbed a knife from the table and threatened to hill himself. She said that she went and hid in the back bedroom and called 911.

The officer observed a black kitchen knife on the table to the couch in the front room. The woman told the officer it was the knife the man was threatening to hurt her and himself with, the arrest report states. The man was taken into custody for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.
