Carson City Parks and Recreation addresses Poison Hemlock facts and myths
There has been a lot of inaccurate information across social media about a noxious weed known as Poison Hemlock. It grows naturally, mainly in moist areas along rivers, ditches and creeks. Like many noxious plants, all parts of the plant are poisonous upon ingestion.
You cannot be poisoned by the fumes, only upon ingestion. If you touch it, it might result in a slight skin irritation.
While there is not a lot of Poison Hemlock in Carson City, parks staff is actively treating/removing this plant throughout its park system. We want the public to be aware of noxious weeds, especially Poison Hemlock to keep people and our furry friends safe.
Washoe County officials on Monday addressed the proliferation of the plant along a trail on Reno's west side. Go here for the Reno Gazette Journal story.
