This volunteer series is running every third Wednesday June through August of this year. Join us after your workday from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. at various trails and open spaces around our city to learn about vegetation and work to remove noxious weeds.

Looking at the day ahead there's a walk hosted by parks and recreation, kids events, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, a free "rough cut" feature film screening at the Carson Nugget, Young Chautauquans at Dangberg Historic Park and more.

Controlling this noxious invasive weed organically is difficult.
Senator Square: Carson High School, Empire students share Carson River experience

Recently, several CHS freshman Biology classes had the opportunity to work with fourth graders from Empire Elementary in Carson City. Students learned about conservation, the water cycle, and the Carson River watershed. CHS students, trained by the River Wranglers conservation group, and on a very windy day, met up with Empire Elementary students at Baily Pond.

There will be about 30 presenters teaching elementary-age youth about Nevada agriculture, where food and fiber come from, and environmental issues related to agriculture.

With one dollar games all day, it’s an inexpensive way to stay cool. Every afternoon this week teens can head down to the Carson City Library for a healthy dose of cinema classics: it’s 80s movie marathon week. Learn what's popping up in your garden at the Shoe Tree Brewery. Experts will be around to help you discern what could cause you trouble during tonight's 'Bring Your Own Noxious Weed' event. All ages karaoke at the Fox Brewpub is a fun way to finish a Monday night.

The event starts at 6 p.m. The coalition will tell you if your plants are noxious or not, and how to get rid of them if they are.

Saturday's Trash Mob focuses on Carson City multi-use trail
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 08/22/2017 - 2:04pmTrash Mobs are a grassroots community effort coordinated by Muscle Powered volunteers to keep the walkways and bike paths around Carson City free of litter.
The monthly, one-hour events take place at various locations around town that are in need of cleaning. Volunteers, who are supplied with work gloves and trash bags by Muscle Powered staff, remove litter from areas often used by citizens for recreational purposes such as walking, jogging or cycling.

It grows naturally, mainly in moist areas along rivers, ditches and creeks. Like many noxious plants, all parts of the plant are poisonous upon ingestion.
