Carson City arrests: Man who thought he had a warrant gives deputy his brother's name
A 46-year-old Mound House man was arrested Monday for felony suspicion of using identification of another person, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Booked at 8:37 a.m. in the area of Highway 50 East and Flint Drive was Thomas Jean Rickards. According to the arrest report, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for basic speeding and expired registration.
The driver identified herself with an Arizona driver’s license. The passenger stated he did not have identification and stated a name. The deputy conducted a wants and warrant check and was unable to identify the man and the date of birth did not match the Social security number he provided.
The officer asked the man to clarify the information he provided. The man became evasive in his answers to basic questions, the arrest report states.
The deputy contacted the sheriff’s office dispatch and asked them to obtain a driver’s license photograph and send it to get a positive identification. The officer was able to determine the registered owner of the vehicle was Thomas Rickards.
The officer asked again for information to assist. The man again stated the name he first gave the officer. The officer learned the name of the man he had given was that of his brother who has the same last name as Rickards. The deputy asked if his real name was Thomas Jean Rickards. The man replied yes and said he believed he had a warrant for his arrest. He was booked for suspicion using the identification of another person. Bail: $10,000.
