Prohibition of medical marijuana may be lifted in Lyon County
YERINGTON — Lyon County Manager Jeff Page announced Friday that the Board of Commissioners will hear a pair of ordinances that would rescind the prohibition on medical marijuana and address the licensing and zoning requirements for both recreational and medical marijuana on Feb. 1, 2018.
In October 2013, Lyon County Commissioners decided not to allow medical marijuana dispensaries in unincorporated areas of Lyon County.
The ordinance prohibits medical marijuana establishments as a matter of land use throughout the unincorporated areas of Lyon County.
Last year, Page told the Nevada Independent that he’s instructed his staff to look at changing some of the county’s ordinances barring medical dispensaries after being approached by a number of growers looking at relocating to the area. Any ordinance change would need to be approved by the County Commission, he said.
