Erratic driving leads to traffic stop, arrest for resisting officer
A 27-year-old Douglas County man faces multiple misdemeanor charges after being stopped in Carson City for reckless driving and then using the opportunity to confront an officer with a stream of obscenities.
According to the arrest report, the man was stopped at around 10 p.m. Monday after driving his 1999 Buick Century erratically, weaving in and out of traffic and following too close to another vehicle. He was paced doing around 40 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The arresting officer pulled over the vehicle and approached the driver, an unemployed Minden man, at the intersection of Carson and Telegraph. The man became belligerent with the officer, stating: "Just give me a d*** ticket; I'll pay it and leave me the F*** alone," according to the arrest report.
The man was asked whether he had ever used narcotics. He told the officer that he last used methamphetamine three months ago. And then, without provocation, the man told the officer that he could search his car.
Deciding to issue a citation for reckless driving and have the car towed, the arresting officer asked for assistance given the man's agitated state. The man was asked to step outside the car and sit on the curb. As the car was going through inventory, the man told officers to "get the F*** out of my car" and to go ahead and "have the dogs search it."
The inventory stopped until the backup officer arrived. While waiting, the man stood up from his seated position and began yelling more obscenities and then began to walk in an aggressive manner toward the officer, according to the arrest report. The man had to be restrained and was assisted by a reserve deputy in getting the man in handcuffs.
The man faces charges of resisting an officer, reckless driving, speeding, following too close and failure to maintain a single lane, all misdemeanors.
