Desert Born Art Project on Display at Dayton Valley Library
Desert Born Art Project Opens At Dayton Library
Dayton, Nv. The Desert Born Art Project opened on Monday, August 29 at the Dayton Valley Branch Library. Pamela Nesbit and Donna Nelson of Smith Valley, Nv. are two local area artists that have collaborated to create very unique art by combining old objects found on the desert and repurposing the objects into art. Their work will be on display through the month of September and the first couple weeks of October of this year. The exhibit is free at the Dayton Valley Branch Library.
While walking on their desert properties one day they became inspired by the rusted, oxidized tin discarded on the land; how the tin, left to the elements, aged and became unique expressions of artistic beauty. They saw how the metal could be recycled in fresh and startling new ways. Pamella recognized the form of the purse in the mangled, reconfigured tin and used that unexpected subject to shape various kinds of purses carried throughout the years by men and women. Donna reinforces the idea that art is everywhere and often fine just as it is. She illustrates the extraordinary in the ordinary, her work ranging from spiritual to humorous.
Both Pam and Donna are also collaborating on a book to be published in the near future. They will participate in a “Local Authors Night” on September 23, 2016 from 6-8 PM at the Dayton Valley Branch Library. They will share stories of their own life inspiration and discovery through their work. Two other local writers will be presenting as part of the same “Local Authors Night”. The other two are Shaun Griffin, “Anthem For a Burnished Land”, and Dave Lenz, “Jack Crow: Indian Healer”. The authors will sell and sign copies of their books at the event.
Wine, beer and light refreshments will be served. There is a $3.00 per adult entrance fee at the door. The first drink is free with the admission charge. Children under 16 years of age are welcome at no charge.
