Retired Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi filed candidacy paperwork Monday for the open Carson City Supervisor Ward 1 seat, which is being vacated by Karen Abowd who announced last fall that she would not be running for a third term.

The Capital City Community Band will be performing its annual “A Salute to Young Musicians” free concert on Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. in the amphitheater at the Bob Boldrick Theater of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street in Carson City.

A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday at 2:12 p.m. near the intersection of College Parkway and Market Street on suspicion of the following misdemeanor offenses: Driving under the influence, first offense, driving without a valid driver’s license, open container, no proof of insurance, failure to use due care, and violation of bail.

More snow is forecast for Western Nevada, including the greater Carson City area, with accumulations between two and four inches in the valleys and as much as six inches of localized accumulation, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.

The Fourth Annual Early Childhood Expo scheduled for Saturday, March 3 at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada has been canceled because of expected inclement weather, Carson City School District Public Information Officer Dan Davis said.

A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 8:30 a.m., in the 400 block of Winnie Lane on suspicion of felony attempt to prevent the reporting of a crime and misdemeanor domestic battery.

Carson City emergency crews are on scene of an single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred in the westbound lanes of East College Parkway under the Interstate 580 bypass, according to Carson City Emergency Dispatch and first responders.

Over the last two months in Northern Nevada, there have been 80 new cases of canine influenza reported.

Due to this increase, and for the health of all dogs, Nevada Humane Society is now offering the canine influenza vaccine at a weekly vaccine clinic for just $20.

Initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) in Nevada totaled 12,900 in January, down 0.5 percent from December’s reading of 13,000.

Overall, initial claims activity is down 8.7 percent relative to January of 2017, a decrease of 1,200 claims.
