A winter storm moving through the region has prompted Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval to close state offices in Northern Nevada Friday, according to a statement from the Nevada Governor's Office.

"State offices in Northern Nevada will be closed all day due to the weather," Gov. Sandoval tweeted early Friday morning. "Please stay safe if you're on the roads and highways."

Although state offices in the north are closed today, the Carson City Courthouse is open for business, said Court Administrator Max Cortes.

The Carson City School District has announced that all public schools within the district are closed today due to winter weather that has settled on the area.

A strong band of winter weather moving through the area Thursday night into Friday has placed travel restrictions on area highways and roadways in and around Carson City, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) said.

The snow finally fell, and continues to fall. The Carson City and Douglas County School Districts have closed all schools due to the weather; Lyon County Schools are on a two hour delay.
