March Madness spills into April with the NCAA Championship Game final showdown. Watch the Gonzaga Bulldogs take on the UNC Tar Heels tonight at 6 p.m. If you find yourself at the Fox Brewpub you may be one of the two lucky people with a chance at free beer for a year. Find out what the city has planned as they walk you through the upcoming budget offered at two public open house presentations. It’s a firefighter kind of day. Not only will they be honored at today’s Legislative Session, Firehouse Subs is hosting a fundraiser for the Fritch Elementary School’s PTA.

Spring weather conditions around Carson City and western Nevada will continue this week with sunshine through Wednesday and the return of showers late Thursday. The weekend looks to be a different story with the potential of a wet and windy wild ride and the resurgence of moderate atmospheric river, according to the National Weather Service.

It may be April’s Fools Day, but the fun going on around town is no joke. Get your blood pumping with the Carson Canyon Half Marathon (or Half/Half Marathon if you want something shorter.) It’s Wine Walk weekend, and with the sunny day you have no reason to stay home. The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers want to ‘Give Our Regards to Broadway’ during their one weekend only production. There’s too much to mention in this short opening paragraph, so keep reading for all the great things our valley and sister valleys have to offer.

Silver Stage High School students learn lessons in Career and Technical Education at WNC

Kasidey Lewis, 15, builds a bird house during a Career and Technical Education tour at Western Nevada College in Carson City, Nev., on Thursday, March 30. Nearly 40 students from Silver Stage High School explored the WNC construction management and manufacturing programs. Participants also learned about Jump Start which allows students to earn high school and college credits at the same time.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Carson High School Career and Technical Education graphic design students Stella Carroll and Luis Garcia developed a logo for Northern Nevada Development Authority’s new tribal economic development program, Native Nations Alliance.

Eyes on Carson City: Thursday brings stew of wind, rain, corn snow and sunshine

Spring showers, gusty winds, touches of wet flakes and corn snow made for a hearty stew of weather conditions around Carson City during the Thursday morning commute.

The quick moving storm system blew in overnight, bringing down temperatures to just below freezing, along with a few bands of rain, snow and pellet showers.

Carson City, Douglas and Washoe counties and the Washoe Tribe of Nevada will receive federal disaster assistance in areas affected by severe winter storms, flooding and mudslides in February, the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Tuesday.

It seems like overnight the crabapples have exploded into bloom. Take advantage of a beautiful day by joining one of the walks organized every Tuesday. An easy walk with Parks and Rec will take you along a portion of the Mexican Ditch Trail today. The Muscle Powered walk in early evening is more strenuous. Fathers will want to get moving if they plan on taking their daughter to the Carson High Father Daughter Dance this Friday. Swing by the High School office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. for tickets or shoot an email to teacher Angila Golek to make sure they’re waiting at will call.

Manufacturers proclaim Eagle Valley Middle School Jedi engineers team junior tech partners

The Micromanipulator Company recently hosted the award-winning 2016-17 Eagle Valley Middle School Jedi Engineers of Carson City, along with school district officials, local businesses, families and friends.

During the Thursday, March 16 event at the company’s facility, the Jedi Engineers were presented with a proclamation from the Western Manufacturing Alliance naming them the first “WMA Junior Technology Advancement Partners” in recognition of their robotics achievements.

WNC Foundation receives donation from Campagni Auto Group for scholarships

Carson City Toyota and Capital Ford have started new scholarships through Western Nevada College that will be offered beginning this fall. These donations are dedicated to helping students pursuing careers in automotive mechanics as well as students pursuing associates degrees in other academic areas.

A portion of today’s proceeds will be donated to Paul Guzetta, a 36 year old local man who is battling an infection in intensive care. Lending a hand to his wife and kids during this tough time is as easy as ordering a pizza (or one of their yummy salads or pasta.)
