Take those spring-breakers to a movie; Galaxy Theater rewards members can enjoy $6.50 movies all day today. Sip something yummy at the Courtyard by Marriott during their wine tasting and open house. Normally the Carson City Photo Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month, but due to a scheduling conflict, the meeting is tonight. Dues are only $15 a year and you’ll get the chance to enter their monthly competitions: this month the theme is ‘Winter.’

Carson kids and the students of Western Nevada College have a reason to celebrate – spring break is here. The State Legislature has an exhibit on display celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women in the Military, in addition to several works of art by Nevadans, so make a special trip to check it out. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets every Monday at El Charro Avita for an evening of dancing and learning something new.
Senator Square: A symphony of students perform at UNR’s Nightingale Hall

Judges from Sacramento and the Bay Area rated this group alongside similar groups from the Reno and Sparks area.
Job seekers, employers turn out for Carson City Job Fair
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sat, 03/18/2017 - 1:06pmAbout 65 vendors greeted job seekers Friday afternoon at the Carson City Community Center gymnasium during the first of two annual job fairs hosted and organized by Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS).
Only this year, Western Nevada College collaborated with CCHHS to put on the job fair that is known to attract hundreds of job seekers.
A second job fair typically takes place in the fall at the same location.
Governor's Office awards $1 million for STEM training programs

It is the second vehicle crash involving a pedestrian today.

You won’t have to look far for some green beer, whiskey, or corned beef – there will be St. Patrick’s Day parties all over. Live music is on the menu, as well. Choose from Men of Worth at the Brewery Arts Center, an all ages punk show at Sassafras, or Stereo Galaxy in the McFadden Plaza, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The brave ones will be at the St. Baldrick Fundraiser at Red’s Old 395 where you’ll see some heads shaved for a good cause. Where ever you end up, just make sure you have a plan to get home safely.
Nevada Humane Society Animal Files: Oakley the Carson City kitty in a tree has a happy ending

Oakley took it upon herself to have a nature adventure and climbed all the way to the top of an Oak tree, hence, her name. Sadly, she couldn’t quite figure out how to get down.

New principals named at Carson City's Bordewich Bray, Fremont Elementary schools
Submitted by editor on Wed, 03/15/2017 - 9:25amThe Carson City School District has named two new principals for the 2017-2018 school year: Mrs. Lisa Hutchison as the new principal of Bordewich Bray Elementary School and Dr. Jennifer Ward-DeJoseph as the new principal of Fremont Elementary School. Each will be replacing Mrs. Karen Simms and Mrs. Casey Gilles respectively. Both Simms and Gilles will be retiring in June.

Several baked goods are for sale as part of the fundraiser, which goes on until 4 p.m.
One table features baked goods made by Cheyenne McBride, Kyrie McBride, and younger cousin Sam McBride. The goods are homemade.

The Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High is on March 31, but don’t wait until the last moment for tickets. Grab them in the High School Office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Grab some friends and head to Carson Cigar Co. for Game Night: Cards Against Humanities, Apples to Apples, and Jenga are just a few of the offerings – it changes every week.
